Review Overview

The hook with this pressed-powder blush is that it’s made with clay from the banks of the Amazon River. Supposedly, this clay is nutrient rich and the nutrients are said to help your skin, but they don’t. Not only is clay void of the kind of ingredients skin needs to look its best, but also the amount of it in this blush is minuscule at best.

Where this excels is with its beautifully silky, talc-based texture that meshes well with skin. The colors look bold and bright in their compacts, but go on easily, leaving a translucent, blushing-from-within look that’s very impressive.

Although pricey, you get lasting color (although 12 hours is stretching it; those with oily skin will find this doesn’t last quite that long) that enlivens cheeks, and—surprise—almost all of the shades have a matte finish! Blushing Bride has obvious shine, but that’s it. Dollface is great for fair skin, Exposed would work on light to tan skin tones, and Flush is a beautiful deep plum for women of color. If you’re up for a blush color that’s not the typical pink or rose, consider the coral-hued Tipsy for a change of pace.

Pros:
  • Beautiful texture and smooth, even application.
  • Translucent, blushing-from-within colors, most of which have a matte finish.
  • Shade range has options for fair to dark skin tones.
  • Holds up quite well, although 12 hours is pushing it.
Cons:
  • Expensive.
  • The Amazonian clay claims are meaningless. Clay can’t transfer anything to skin; all it does is absorb moisture and oil.

Brand Overview

Tarte Cosmetics At-A-Glance

Strengths: Excellent foundations; great cheek stain and powder blushes; superior pressed powder and eyelining pencils; good mascaras; unique, innovative, beautiful packaging; complete ingredient lists on the company's Web site.

Weaknesses: Can be pricey.

Tarte Cosmetics CEO and founder Maureen Kelly started Tarte in 1999, out of a desire to create a cosmetics line that “would prove that glamour can be good for you.” This comes in the form of products that highlight naturally-derived ingredients in their marketing campaigns, and occasionally taking swipes at the concept of synthetics in makeup.

This is ironic, as Tarte uses more than a few beneficial synthetically derived ingredients in their formulas—silicones, synthetic fragrances, preservatives and on and on. However, we’ll forgive them that as what’s ultimately important is whether their products meet your needs, and to that we can say the brand excels in many areas at what they do.

However, a few products are a bit on the pricey side and there are a few iffy shades and textures to consider among their foundations—noted in their respective reviews. A few caveats aside, most of Tarte's foundations, blush options, eye pencils and an ever-expanding range of innovative products demonstrate that color is what they do best.

Perfection

This looks SO natural on, people think I don't wear makeup but I never go out without this. I'm very pale with cool undertones, and Dollface and Natural Beauty work well on me. I have combination skin. This lasts all day. I couldn't be happier. I don't ever bother trying other blushes or cheek tints because there couldn't be anything better. Plus it lasts super long in its container (a year plus), you only need a tiny dab, so it's actually a great buy.

My Favorite Blush

This is my favorite blush! I love the soft pink color on my fair skin. It looks so natural! I especially love that it doesn't irritate my sensitive, acne-prone, combination skin. This blush is a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

Loving It!

I bought the shade Fearless, and love it. It doesn't seem like much product is getting on your brush (I used a natural hair blush brush), but it is highly pigmented and goes on well, without being too much. It is Matte and stayed on for a few hours on my oily/combination skin. Its the best blush I have used so far. It looks flawless and natural, with NO Glitter or Shimmer! Yay!

Favorite

This is truly the best blush I've ever used. A little goes a very long way as it's so intensely pigmented. I barely touch my brush to the pan to get the proper amount. I've very oily skin, yet it is still detectable (not full-application state) on my face at the end of a grueling 10 hour shift.

My favorite powder blush

26.00 for blush? Unfortunately I love this blush & it lasts longer on me than any other powder blush, which usually disappears within an hour. This one stayed on 4 hours before fading & I have fair combo skin. It might stay on you longer. I have the Blushing Bride a rose shade & Blissful a coral shade. Considering all the money I spent on crappy blushes it's actually more economic for me to purchase this. However if you want a blush that lasts 8 hrs consider Benetint or Posietint by Benefit.

Love this blush

I am on my third purchase of the Tipsy shade. I have fair skin and find that it gives me a natural looking glow and compliments my skin tone. It may seem a bit expensive but each compact lasts me months, as I do not have to use a lot of it to get the look I want. I recommended the brand to a friend, and while she uses a different shade (Dollface), she also loves it.

Gorgeous options

I'm really not a pink kind of girl, so imagine my surprise when I saw that Tarte's Amazonian Clay blush comes in a really gorgeous coral color called Tipsy. I have normal skin that tends toward dry in the winter and slightly oily in the summer and this blush stays put all day for me. Plus, I've gotten tons of compliments on the color, which is really perfect for my olive skin.
