Review Overview

This is an awesome tinted moisturizer if you have normal to dry skin and want an attractive glow finish that is sophisticated without being sparkly. Unlike Mercier’s other tinted moisturizers, this one gets the UVA issue right by including avobenzone. The silicone-enhanced formula contains several antioxidants, is fragrance-free, and comes in five versatile sheer shades ideal for fair to medium skin tones. Unless your skin is sensitive to synthetic sunscreen actives or you want more coverage, there is every reason to consider this formidable tinted moisturizer. You also can blend it with a foundation if you need more coverage, but keep in mind that doing so will diminish the amount of sun protection you get (unless your foundation also includes sunscreen).

Note:Although this foundation provides broad-spectrum sun protection on its own, you must apply it liberally and evenly to get the stated level of protection. A sheer or spot application will not provide the amount of sun protection the label indicates. If you’re not likely to apply this foundation liberally, we recommend applying it over a moisturizer with sunscreen rated SPF 15 or greater and setting your foundation with a pressed powder rated SPF 15 or greater.

Brand Overview

Laura Mercier At-A-Glance

Strengths: Many fragrance-free products; top-notch water-soluble cleansers; some extraordinary foundation and powder products; great powder blush, cream blush, and powder eyeshadows; a couple impressive mascaras; mostly great shimmer products; praiseworthy makeup brushes.

Weaknesses: Expensive; some of the products with sunscreen lack sufficient UVA-protecting ingredients; jar packaging hinders some of the skincare formulas.

Mercier did a reasonably good job of crafting a skin-care line to complement her formidable collection of makeup (color is definitely Mercier's strong suit). From her above-average cleansers to some intriguing serums, it is clear that the skin care wasn't just an afterthought. Mercier is the only independent makeup artistry line we know of whose skin-care products actually have an impressive array of state-of-the-art ingredients. Of course, not everything is a slam-dunk, but following the reviews below will lead you to some wonderful products, assuming the higher-than-normal prices don't offset your decision to shop this line for your skin-care needs. And it's nice that the line has toned down its claims about emu oil, because it was never that miraculous to begin with - it's just one of many emollient oils that can help dry skin look and feel better.

Laura Mercier Makeup

What sets Mercier's well-organized makeup line apart from the rest is her trademark "flawless face." Mercier believes that perfecting the complexion is the most important step to makeup application, and her line presents some incredible options for doing just that. An added plus is that Mercier's counter staff really have their act together when it comes to makeup application know-how, while the sales pressure is low key. We wish the tester units were more spacious and efficiently labeled, but this isn't an overwhelming line to navigate.

Most of Mercier's foundations are in many ways a step above the rest. Although none of the main foundations offer sun protection, there are formidable options for all skin types, and the pigmentation in each is rich, so a little goes a long way. Other areas where Laura Mercier's makeup really excels are the loose powders, cream blush, mascara, brushes, and shimmer products. It is all too easy and very tempting to put together an entire makeup wardrobe from the Mercier selection, but keep in mind that there are a fair number of standard to lackluster products that simply aren't worth the expense, despite Mercier's considerable makeup artistry expertise.

Mercier's handiwork routinely graces the covers of major fashion magazines, and for the most part her work speaks for itself and epitomizes this line's Flawless Face philosophy. Mercier herself regularly makes special appearances at her counters, and my guess is that sitting in her chair would be an experience to remember!

Gorgeous, glowing finish!

I sampled this a while ago, and had wanted to buy it. Fast forward a year or so, and my 33 year-old skin all of a sudden hates the original Bare Minerals makeup I've been using for years. Bought this to see if it's still as amazing as it was before--the answer is yes. Light-medium coverage, glowing finish, does not feel like I'm wearing makeup. I use MAC Mineralize Skinfinish to set. This has a radiant finish, not for those who want shine-less matte.

Disappointed

I have dry, flaky skin, even in the summer so I had high hopes for this tinted moisturizer. Unfortunately it makes my face look pale and greasy and I'm not a fan. I've been mixing it with another foundation to try to combat the "white cast" it gives me and that seems to help the greasy look of it too. I would throw it away but I spent so much money on it I can't bring myself to waste it like that.

Didn't like it

Didn't like it because of the colour and the final result. Natural Radiance lookes on my face absolutely unnatural, the product appears to be darker on the skin than expected. And it can be easily seen on my skin, no smooth and immaculate finish at all - that was my sad personal experience.

Get a sample at Sephora! Loved it, Bought it!

Worth every penny...a little goes a long way. Not an everyday foundation but whenever I've worn it for evening, people comment how gorgeous my skin looks...Will require concealer in the places that need it but I am sold...Thanks Paula, would have never tried if it weren't for the Paula rating. A dusting of Powder buffers the glow for a perfectly polished look. If you want an instant pick-me-up...try this stuff but don't slather it on--otherwise the Jetsons look. I bought Natural Radiance.

Watch out for the shade you buy....

Some of the shades of Mica aka sparkles in them some don't. Because of this confusing decision and price. I don't recommend this. If you want sparkles on your face go for it.

Great tinted moisturizer for dry skin!

Though expensive, this tinted moisturizer feels wonderfully moisturizing, has a glowy, natural finish, and evens out your skin tone. If you can afford it, you won't be disappointed!
