Review Overview

Aquaphor Baby Gentle Wash & Shampoo is a very good, exceptionally gentle cleanser that is well-suited for the delicate skin of babies (and adults with sensitive skin). The fragrance-free formula contains a gentle detergent cleansing agent as its main ingredient, followed by cleansing agents that do a more thorough job of cleansing without causing significant disruption of skin's barrier function.

Note: This product was previously named Aquaphor Gentle Wash for Baby.

Claims

Soap, water and detergents can dry or even irritate your baby's delicate skin. Aquaphor Gentle Wash is a soap-free formula that helps prevent the drying effects of cleansing. Clinically proven mild for sensitive skin. It's even appropriate for the dry skin associated with atopic dermatitis.

Ingredients

Water, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Myreth Sulfate, PEG-200 Hydrogenated Glyceryl Palmate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Panthenol, Bisabolol, Polyquaternium 10, Sea Salt, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Benzoate

Brand Overview

Eucerin At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive and widely distributed; fragrance-free cleansers; some good body washes and body moisturizers; widely available.

Weaknesses: Anti-redness products that added questionable ingredients instead of increasing the anti-inflammatory agents; nothing for acne-prone skin; jar packaging; some standard body lotions that are OK for dry skin but "OK" isn't good enough.

This drugstore staple line claims to be dermatologist-preferred skin care, but any dermatologist who recommends this line in its entirety without reservation needs a crash course in what skin really needs to be protected and look its best.

There are some basic products that a dermatologist would want to consider, but Eucerin falls short in products to address acne. Further, their latest facial skincare products aren't keeping pace with what industry frontrunners are doing in an effort to create elegant, effective products. For example, serums from Olay, Neutrogena, and Aveeno have much more interesting formulations, while moisturizers from many other drugstore lines (including Nivea, which is owned by Eucerin parent company Beiersdorf) include a greater complement of antioxidants and ingredients that mimic the structure and function of healthy skin. Eucerin is making some strides here, though, which is an encouraging sign.

A major pro for this line is that all of the products are fragrance-free. Although that's helpful for all skin types, it certainly isn't compelling enough for dermatologists to green-light this line without cautions about which products to avoid.

Excellent Body Wash for Dry, Sensitive Skin

Great for dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin like mine. I found it through this site's review. Conveniently packaged in a pump bottle, and great price. I used the Aveeno baby wash before, but this is cheaper per ounce and packaged better. Look for the new Eucerin Baby packaging because they changed the name recently.

Great for adults & as a shampoo!

I've used this Aquaphor Wash as a body wash and hand soap. It is a great cleanser; it removes ointment residue that regular "gentle" soaps can't cut through. Despite its strength, it is gentle and doesn't irritate my eczema no matter how bad my breakout. I tried it as a shampoo a few months ago and am hooked!! My scalp no longer tingles (meaning gets irritated) while washing, my scalp isn't itchy during the day, and my hair is less oily! I've got 2 teens in the house using it to reduce oil, too.
