Review Overview

This is a very standard AHA exfoliant sold for use as a foot cream along with use on other areas of the body which is a strange mix. Nonetheles, the fragrance-free formula containing 12% of the AHA glycolic acid has a pH level of 4 that works well as an exfoliant. The simple emollients and thickeners this contains will help make skin on the feet softer, but there are more elegant foot creams available from brands like Gold Bond.

Alpha Hydrox also recommends this product for treating the skin disorder keratosis pilaris (KP) the red bumps on arms and legs that resemble chicken skin, and although the amount of AHA may help with this plus callused feet, a BHA (salicylic acid) body lotion is more likely to produce better results. This is due to the manner in which BHA exfoliates, which is different than how AHAs work, especially on bumpy or thickened skin.

Foot & Problem Cream is worth considering and it's inexpensive, but if you're not happy with the results for your KP know that you can also consider one of the BHA exfoliants we recommend on our list of Best BHA Exfoliants.

  • Contains enough glycolic acid and is formulated in the correct pH range for exfoliation to occur.
  • Fragrance-free.
  • Will help improve dry, callused skin on feet.
  • Inexpensive.
  • BHA (salicylic acid) is a better exfoliant for callused skin and keratosis pilaris (KP), though AHA is an option.
Works especially well for treating Keratosis Pilaris (KP), Contains 10% Glycolic AHA, Effective pH 4, Fragrance-free, non-greasy, Safely lifts dead skin cells from skin's surface, allowing new cells to emerge.

Brand Overview

Alpha Hydrox At-A-Glance

Strengths: A good selection of well-priced, effective AHA products utilizing glycolic acid; also excels with skin-lightening and retinol products; a small but workable selection of cleansers.

Weaknesses:A couple of moisturizers with oxygenating ingredients; reliance on jar packaging for some products with antioxidants.

Known primarily for their well-formulated AHA products, Alpha Hydrox got an impressive image update recently. Although the improvements were more visual and packaging-related than formulary-driven, the fact remains that Alpha Hydrox has a formidable range of effective AHA products, all with definitively researched glycolic acid. Kudos to the company for continuing to be direct about the AHA content (and pH) of their exfoliants, something most other lines selling AHA products prefer to keep a mystery. Should the folks behind this brand choose to go back to the drawing board once again, they would do well to reconsider their current jar packaging if they intend to keep adding antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients to their efficacious but still predominantly basic products. Until then, you can rely on Alpha Hydrox for supplying AHA products that really work, and a few other surprises too, all affordably priced and readily available.

works, but not a moisturizer

I used this cream diligently every night it actually did something the other creams did not do and that was remove thick skin on heels and cracks ... however it is NOT moisturizing at all i did have to put another cream on top .... so i did see this product more as a pre-step to my other foot moisturizers that claim to work that gave it an extra punch to work
