Review Overview

Unlike some of the other sunscreens Kiss My Face markets to kids, this version doesn't contain fragrant irritants. Instead, you get gentle, broad-spectrum protection from the mineral sunscreen actives titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. This lightweight yet emollient lotion base, which is best for normal to dry skin, contains several antioxidant-rich plant ingredients. This is also fragrance-free, which is a benefit for all skin types, especially sensitive and children's skin. We have a winner, and its price isn't too bad, either!

Note: Although this sunscreen contains many natural ingredients, it isn't all natural. That's fine, though, because in most instances the best products include a blend of natural and synthetic ingredients proven to be safe and effective.

  • Provides broad-spectrum sun protection with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
  • Sensibly priced.
  • Fragrance-free, gentle formula loaded with antioxidants for an additional measure of environmental protection.
  • None.

Natural mineral sunscreen for fun in the sun! No nanoparticles, phthalates, fragrances, artificial colors or any other animal ingredients. Gluten free, biodegradable and not tested on animals!

Brand Overview

Kiss My Face At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive; generous sizes; some very good sunscreens, occasional use of antioxidants without troublesome plant extracts; some fragrance-free products.

Weaknesses: Nearly all products contain one or more problematic plant extracts or volatile plant oils; the Obsessively Organic line is a dud; no products to treat acne or lighten skin discolorations; several bar soaps; no reliable AHA or BHA products; irritating toners; problematic self-tanner.

Lining the shelves of many health food stores and the "natural" skin-care aisles of quite a few national grocery store chains is this sweetly named line of skin-care products. Similar to competitor Burt's Bees (where Burt himself sold handmade products out of the back of his pickup truck), the owners of Kiss My Face are also vegetarians. (What does dietary preference have to do with skin care? We don't know, but it's mentioned several times in the information about this company.) Also similar to Burt's Bees, the founders of Kiss My Face started on a farm and took their products and concept to the big city, where it was well received.

Of course, the farm setting juxtaposed with the urban success speaks to the company's desire to maintain their natural image, despite using several ingredients that aren't natural in the least. If anything, many of the natural ingredients Kiss My Face chooses are a problem for skin because they cause irritation. Even more upsetting is that they do so without exerting a benefit. The company claims to use the latest scientific research mixed with the best nature has to offer, saying that doesn't leave any room for "unnecessary chemical additives," but there is a lot of research about all kinds of ingredients, natural and synthetic, that indicates they are excellent for skin. Kiss My Face must be doing some inadequate or extremely limited research.

What Kiss My Face lacks is a product range that keeps up with state-of-the-art options from neighboring lines in the mass market. We are leery of any skin-care company that claims to be using the latest research and yet sells sunscreens without reliable UVA protection, toners with irritants, and far more bar soaps, which are also a problem for skin, than water-soluble cleansers. Again, what research are they using? Although the natural slant here is more a front than factual, there are some winning products to consider, and the price point is very attractive, as is the simple packaging. Shopping Kiss My Face carefully can result in some great beauty bargains.

Very good!

I've tried so many mineral sunscreens and this one is by far the best. I think a lot of people don't realize that Mineral sunscreen will always leave a bit of a white cast. It's the nature of the product! That said, this one blends in better than most. Seriously. Great protection and it doesn't irritate my skin like so many others (Avene mineral sunscreen, I'm looking at you...)

This sunscreen has the texture (and smell) of Elmer's glue. It doesn't absorb into the skin at all and immediately flakes off as other reviewers have described. I ended up throwing it out after a few attempted uses. The formula may be nice on paper, but in practice it's a major fail.

Not good

The ingredients in this cream is really lovely. The price is also good. But then I have no more good to say about the cream. It goes completely white, and the white color sits in lumps on the skin. I stick to a alba botanica very emolient sunscreen spf 30 which I love :) Super price and submit perfectly on my skin. Keep up the good work :) Best regards Henrik :)

Was disappointed with this product

I was not too happy with the formula of this sunscreen. Goes on like a thick white paste, and when you try to rub it in, it crumbles. I can't believe that this recieved a 'Best' rating, will definately not repurchase.

Not My Favorite

This sunscreen is very thick and sticky when applying and almost impossible to rub in. When it dries there are white streaks across your skin. I think there are much more elegant mineral formulas out there, so I will not be purchasing this again and may not even finish the tube.
