AcneFree's Mild Moderate Clear Skin System includes three products: Oil-Free Purifying Cleanser (4 fl. oz.), Renewing Toner (4 fl. oz.), and Repair Lotion (2 fl. oz.). All are meant to be used as a daily skin-care routine to treat and prevent mild to moderate acne.
As is often the case with anti-acne kits, you're getting a mix of helpful and harmful products that, when used together, offer little hope of improving acne or its red marks.
The slightly granular Oil-Free Purifying Cleanser in this kit contains benzoyl peroxide to kill acne-causing bacteria, but to be effective, this ingredient is best left on skin rather than rinsed off. This also fails as a cleanser because it contains a very drying detergent cleansing agent, which is a problem for all skin types.
Next is the Renewing Toner, which you should absolutely avoid because it contains a high amount of skin-damaging alcohol along with witch hazel. Both of these ingredients cause irritation that hurt's skin's healing process and can stimulate excess oil production at the base of the pore, potentially making acne worse! Alcohol also generates free-radical damage, which does not help heal acne lesions and makes discolorations stick around longer!
The fragrance-free Repair Lotion is medicated with 3.7% benzoyl peroxide and is the only well-formulated product in this kit. The 3.7% concentration of benzoyl peroxide is unusual—2.5% or 5% are more common concentrations—but some may find 3.7% a suitably happy medium. Regrettably, this product is not sold outside the kit, so you're better off checking out our list of Best Anti-Acne Products for other benzoyl peroxide products.
- Repair Lotion is fragrance-free does kill acne-causing bacteria.
- Cleanser's benzoyl peroxide is wasted because you rinse it off before it has a chance to work.
- Cleanser contains drying cleansing agent that can leave skin feeling tight.
- Irritant-laden toner won't help acne, but may make skin oilier and prolong redness.
- Most of the products contain fragrance, a prime troublemaker for truly sensitive skin.

AcneFree is a small group of skin-care products sold in sets. As you may have guessed from the brand name, this is a line that's all about treating acne. You'll find this brand in most major drugstores, but it's not the acne treatment system to beat!
Owned by University Medical Pharmaceuticals, you'd think these products would be a slam-dunk for acne, but they're not. Although the kits contain some good products, all of them feature at least one product that's not effective for its intended purpose or contains irritating ingredients that will make your acne worse.
Just because the company claims these kits (systems) are the #1 best-selling in America doesn't mean they work; rather, it means that a lot of consumers with acne are buying the wrong products. We understand the frustration of struggling with breakouts. You want something that works to get rid of them, and the faster the better. It would be great if AcneFree could make good on all of its promises, but it simply doesn't, at least not 100%.
