The eye area and upper lip area are definitely two of the most age-prone places on the face, but this product isn't the antiwrinkle answer. It's a basic emollient moisturizer that contains a decent amount of vitamin E, a basic antioxidant addition to most cosmetic formulations.
The amount of lactic acid is too low for it to function as an exfoliant, though it does have some benefit as a water-binding agent. This product contains comfrey extract, which isn't something to use near the eye, or anywhere else for that matter. Topical application of comfrey has anti-inflammatory properties, but it is recommended only for short-term use and only then if you can be sure the amount of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (a toxic component of the plant) is less than 100 micrograms per application—something that would be impossible to determine without sophisticated testing equipment, making comfrey an ingredient to avoid. The alkaloid content makes it a potential skin irritant (Sources: Chemical Research in Toxicology, November 2001, pages 1546–1551; and Public Health Nutrition, December 2000, pages 501–508).

Vitamins E and B5 combine with the natural ingredients Soy, Chamomile, Cucumber extract and Almond oil to create a rich formula that won't run or melt.

Known primarily for their well-formulated AHA products, Alpha Hydrox got an impressive image update recently. Although the improvements were more visual and packaging-related than formulary-driven, the fact remains that Alpha Hydrox has a formidable range of effective AHA products, all with definitively researched glycolic acid. Kudos to the company for continuing to be direct about the AHA content (and pH) of their exfoliants, something most other lines selling AHA products prefer to keep a mystery. Should the folks behind this brand choose to go back to the drawing board once again, they would do well to reconsider their current jar packaging if they intend to keep adding antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients to their efficacious but still predominantly basic products. Until then, you can rely on Alpha Hydrox for supplying AHA products that really work, and a few other surprises too, all affordably priced and readily available.
