Overview

This lightweight yet emollient AHA body lotion contains 12% glycolic acid formulated at a pH that allows it to exfoliate skin. The formula exfoliates and moisturizes dry skin, but lacks a range of beneficial anti-aging ingredients that elevate it to must-have status. Really, this is as basic as it gets, though Alpha Hydrox deserves kudos for omitting fragrance and ensuring the AHA actually exfoliates. Although this is an excellent drugstore option to consider, those looking for greater benefits from an exfoliating body lotion may want to consider Paula’s Choice Skin Revealing Body Lotion with 10% AHA instead.

Claims

Infused with lactic AHA, this lotion exfoliates, hydrates, renews and adds rich moisture to your skin. Leaves skin feeling healthy, smooth and wonderfully soft.

Ingredients

Water, Petrolatum, Glycolic Acid, Glycerin, Ammonium Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Dimethicone, Mineral Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Lanolin Alcohol, PEG-40 Stearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

Brand Overview

Alpha Hydrox At-A-Glance

Strengths: A good selection of well-priced, effective AHA products utilizing glycolic acid; also excels with skin-lightening and retinol products; a small but workable selection of cleansers.

Weaknesses:A couple of moisturizers with oxygenating ingredients; reliance on jar packaging for some products with antioxidants.

Known primarily for their well-formulated AHA products, Alpha Hydrox got an impressive image update recently. Although the improvements were more visual and packaging-related than formulary-driven, the fact remains that Alpha Hydrox has a formidable range of effective AHA products, all with definitively researched glycolic acid. Kudos to the company for continuing to be direct about the AHA content (and pH) of their exfoliants, something most other lines selling AHA products prefer to keep a mystery. Should the folks behind this brand choose to go back to the drawing board once again, they would do well to reconsider their current jar packaging if they intend to keep adding antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients to their efficacious but still predominantly basic products. Until then, you can rely on Alpha Hydrox for supplying AHA products that really work, and a few other surprises too, all affordably priced and readily available.

works , but is boring

This product is very moisturizing and does what it claims, however it is a bit boring/ bland when it comes to other body creams there is no collagen or antioxidants or firming properties which is leading me to flip flop between other creams that do.

One of the Best "Drugstore" Lotions

Affordably priced at about $12 for a 12-ounce bottle, this lotion feels good when applied. When applied after showering, skin continues to feel soft and moisturized until the next shower. I like that this product has a decent amount (12%) of glycolic AHA, which helps to get rid of bumps and signs of aging over time. Good performance for dry skin at an excellent price. Winter will be the real test, but I've been using this for several months and ordered more.

Great Inexpensive all over exfoliant

My husband has moderate psoriasis. He was looking for something that was fairly inexpensive and could be used all over for general exfoliation. This absorbs fast and is scentless and is half the price as anything else he tried. I had originally given him my Paula's choice BHA body lotion which worked but not as well as this. As anyone dealing with psoriasis knows you need to try a lot of different things to find out what works for them. At $12.99 this is worth trying.
