Alpha Skin Care's Intensive Rejuvenating Serum has an ingredient list that's identical to what this product was formerly known as when Alpha Skin Care's brand name was Alpha Hydrox: Intensive Serum 14% Glycolic AHA. As the previous product was highly rated, we're not surprised that the only change is its new name and sleek new packaging. Since this remains a great AHA exfoliant for all skin types, we opted to preserve the bulk of the review as originally written for the previous version of this product.
This fragrance-free AHA exfoliant in serum form contains 14% glycolic acid, an amount that can definitely produce noticeable results in skin, especially since this product's pH (3.7) is within range for the glycolic acid to exfoliate.
Also on hand are soothing anti-irritants, which is good because for many 14% glycolic acid might be too much for some to apply daily (research on routine topical use of AHAs generally recommends concentrations do not exceed 10%).
In short, this beautifully silky serum is a worthwhile AHA exfoliant for all skin types, especially if your skin is showing signs of sun damage, such as wrinkles, dullness, and uneven tone. The fragrance-free formula is inexpensive compared to many other AHA exfoliants, and its pH-correct formula ensures it's money well spent!
Note: This would also be worth trying if you have breakout-prone skin that hasn't responded well to BHA (salicylic acid), as the gel texture is highly unlikely to make breakouts or clogged pores worse.
- Beautifully light, silky, non-sticky gel texture works for all skin types.
- Contains an effective amount of glycolic acid formulated in the correct pH range for exfoliation to occur.
- Contains anti-irritants to reduce (possibly eliminate) potential irritation from the 14% glycolic acid.
- Packaged to keep the light- and air-sensitive ingredients stable during use.
- Fragrance-free formula.
- 14% glycolic acid might be too potent for some, even those who wouldn't ordinarily describe themselves as having sensitive skin.
Intensive Rejuvenating Serum is a potent, concentrated formula with 14% Glycolic AHA which works by gently releasing dead skin cells allowing new, fresh, healthier cells to come to the surface. Significantly reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Helps to support collagen production. Evens skin tone and texture. Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

Known primarily for their well-formulated AHA products, Alpha Skin Care (formerly Alpha Hydrox) recently got an impressive image update. Along with a new name, they've also revamped their products. Although the improvements were more visual and packaging-related than formulary-driven, the fact remains that Alpha Skin Care has a formidable range of effective AHA products, all with definitively researched glycolic acid. Kudos to the company for continuing to be direct about the AHA content (and pH) of their exfoliants, something most other lines selling AHA products prefer to keep a mystery.
Should the folks behind this brand choose to go back to the drawing board once again, they would do well to reconsider their current jar packaging if they intend to keep adding antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients to their efficacious but still predominantly basic products. Until then, you can rely on Alpha Skin Care for supplying AHA products that really work, and a few other surprises too, all affordably priced and readily available.
