VelvetMineral Liquid Foundation with AmazingConcealer Technology SPF 15 is a very emollient liquid foundation with a subtle satin finish. The creamy texture of this fragrance-free foundation makes it best for normal to slightly dry skin. Its hydrating formula helps mask the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; though, like any foundation, it doesn't make lines and wrinkles invisible. The generous selection of shades offers multiple options for light to dark skin tones, but the undertones tend to be consistently warm (yellow to gold or slightly peach); there are no options for very dark skin tones.
For those with only minor discolorations or blemishes, it may be possible to skip using a concealer when using this foundation. The coverage is impressive, and it layers from sheer to full depending on preference. However, VelvetMineral Liquid Foundation—like AmazingConcealer—is highly pigmented and should be applied with a brush or sponge (not fingers!) to prevent streaky or uneven coverage. Also keep in mind that, although this foundation does provide broad-spectrum sun protection, it must be applied liberally to achieve the stated SPF level—and applying this product liberally (think VERY full coverage) may not result in your desired look (see More Info for details).
- Smoothes over skin, masking fine lines and wrinkles.
- Provides broad-spectrum sun protection.
- Hydrating, fragrance-free formula.
- Highly pigmented; buildable sheer to full coverage.
- Wide selection of shades includes options for light to dark skin tones.
- Pricey; there are less expensive foundations that work just as well.
- Application can be a bit tricky.
This foundation's rating is due to its overall performance rather than its SPF rating. Due to concerns about people not applying sunscreen liberally enough to get the amount of SPF protection stated on the label, it is often recommended to look for SPFs with ratings higher than 15. If you plan to use foundation as your sole source of facial sun protection, consider using one rated SPF 20 or greater. If the foundation with sunscreen you choose is rated less than an SPF 20, we strongly advise applying it over a daytime moisturizer rated SPF 15 or greater and following it with a pressed powder rated SPF 15 or greater. That way, you're ensuring sufficient broad-spectrum protection, which is essential for having and maintaining healthy, younger-looking skin at any age.

AmazingCosmetics was founded in 1999 as a small online company that sold only one product—an expensive concealer. Co-founders Lisa Thurman and Sue Katz believe a great concealer is the ultimate must-have for a woman’s makeup routine, and the fashion magazines often tout it as being as amazing as the market claims make it sound.
If you're hoping that the media buzz justifies the hefty price tag of this concealer, you'll likely be disappointed. The truth is that, although AmazingConcealer is a good product, it isn't one of the best concealers we’ve ever used, and it certainly isn't suitable for use on all skin types or on every imperfection. (We explain why in the AmazingConcealer review.)
Since the launch of AmazingCosmetics and the success of AmazingConcealer, the line has expanded its makeup line with products for the eyes, lips, and face, including the now-popular Velvet Mineral Liquid Foundation with their "AmazingConcealer Technology." Once sold only online, AmazingCosmetics is now available in Sephora and Ulta stores across the U.S.A.
In our research, we found AmazingCosmetics's chief weakness to be its price point, despite some very good products. Most of their product formulas, while good, are available in other products from less expensive brands, which often have better options, so there’s little reason to splurge here. Still, there are several products that are worth sampling for their unique qualities, including the inaugural AmazingConcealer and the offshoot of this perennial favorite, the Velvet Mineral Liquid Foundation SPF 15. Beyond those two, you can safely gloss over the rest of this brand’s offerings, unless you don’t mind paying extra for equally good products you can find elsewhere for less.
