Becca's Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation is an exceptional one for those with normal to dry (or even very dry) skin types seeking a light coverage formula. The finish is certainly dewy, but accomplishes this result via multiple moisturizing ingredients rather than the "old standby" of added shimmer. The result is beautiful, and as it lacks fragrances, is an option to consider for those with sensitivity concerns as well.

Housed in a tall glass bottle, Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation uses a push-button dropper to dispense its formula. Its super-fluid texture lends itself well to the dropper method, and we found that about 2-3 drops was all that was needed for a full-face application.

Becca notes that this foundation "imparts a subtle luminosity that blurs imperfections and leaves a soft-focus glow." In our experience, this claim was accurate as it blends easily, aided by its moisturizing and light feel. Regardless of your preference for application tools (sponge, brush or hands), you'll likely find this is easy to work with.

The degree of coverage is light, and though it layers slightly, it isn't what we would describe as "medium" by any means. You can expect this to even out (i.e. "blur") minor discolorations and redness, leaving skin with a healthy glow, but more apparent complexion concerns will still have you reaching for your concealer.

The aforementioned "glow" is an important one to stress, as the blend of non-fragrant oils and other emollients make this a truly excellent option for those with normal to dry skin. Wearing well over the course of the workday, it resists sinking into lines, floats over dry patches and leaves your face with a natural-looking radiance. Oily to combination skin types take note: Any areas that tend to get shiny over the course of the day will be emphasized with this formula.

Becca currently offers this in 8 shades, which lean toward the neutral to warm range, but are all beautiful and offer something for those with light to deeper skin ones. We noticed that the shades ran deeper than one would expect given their description—in some cases a full shade darker—particularly in the fair to medium tones. This just means we recommend strongly that you test this in-store to find the best shade match.

As a nice bonus, Becca added more than a dusting of some beneficial antioxidants and reparative emollients. Joining the ranks of Charlotte Tilbury's Light Wonder, Becca's Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation is an excellent option for those seeking a moisturizing, dewy finish and lightweight coverage.

Pros:
  • Dewy, moisturizing finish.
  • Natural looking sheer to light coverage.
  • Includes beneficial antioxidants and non-fragrant plant oils.
  • Fragrance free.
Cons:
  • None.

Brand Overview

Becca At-A-Glance

Australian import Becca is a complete line of color cosmetics from makeup artist Rebecca Morrice Williams. As the story goes, Rebecca, like so many women, was having difficulty finding the perfect foundation. It seems her professional experience making up women of varying skin tones and preferences shared one truth: all women wanted perfect skin. This set Williams on her path to creating what would become the Becca line.

While there are a number of excellent foundations here, what seems to have catapulted the brand onto the map is their numerous highlighter products. From liquids to powders, there are an incredible range of options in their luminizer categories, and many are superb.

Surveying the rest of this line revealed that Williams not only did her homework for foundation shades, the eyeshadows are amazingly silky, and many of their products for lips and cheeks are exemplary. Lastly, almost all of the makeup brushes from Becca are aces, and the options plentiful, especially for eye designs.

Strengths: Excellent concealers, foundations, highlighters and eyeshadows; good lip gloss; several outstanding brushes.

Weaknesses: Beats us, this is a strong collection of products.

Becca is available at Sephora, Ulta and via their Web site.
