Becca's Blotting Powder Perfector is an excellent mattifying and setting powder from a brand traditionally known for their highlighting products. Chief among its strong points is how the lightweight pressed powder absorbs oily shine on contact—all without adding a noticeable layer to skin. Of course, you don't have to spend this much to get a good setting/mattifying powder, but if you don't mind the price point, Blotting Powder Perfector is a great option!

Of the two shades available, "Translucent" appears to be white in the compact but goes on imperceptibly—it won't leave a grey cast on skin (but is best for light to medium skin tones). The "Tinted" shade has a natural-looking bronze hue that goes on ultra-sheer (ideal for medium-tan to deep complexions), so skin of any tone should find a workable option, as both shades offer seamless coverage that blends effortlessly with skin! Whether lightly dabbed on with the included powder puff or swept over skin with a brush, the matte finish looks natural—not chalky.

Another plus? Blotting Powder Perfector works impressively well to set makeup; even someone with dry skin could use it in that capacity since it doesn't feel overly absorbent or look cakey. Those with very oily skin will still have to do a little touching up, reapplying this to combat shine after a few hours, but the mirrored compact makes that easy to do (and it comes with a zippered pouch for on-the-go use). We'd also agree with Becca's claim that this powder helps blur the appearance of pores! Extra benefit!

Really, we could go on and on about how great Blotting Powder Perfector is as mattifier and makeup setter, but you get the point! Oooh, and it's fragrance-free too! Color us impressed.

Pros:
  • Lightweight, pressed powder absorbs oily shine on contact.
  • Sets makeup and prolong its wear without looking chalky or cakey.
  • Finely milled texture helps visibly blur the appearance of pores.
  • Sheer shades that work well for a variety of skin tones.
  • Fragrance-free formula.
Cons:
  • None. Well, maybe the price.

Brand Overview

Becca At-A-Glance

Australian import Becca is a complete line of color cosmetics from makeup artist Rebecca Morrice Williams. As the story goes, Rebecca, like so many women, was having difficulty finding the perfect foundation. It seems her professional experience making up women of varying skin tones and preferences shared one truth: all women wanted perfect skin. This set Williams on her path to creating what would become the Becca line.

While there are a number of excellent foundations here, what seems to have catapulted the brand onto the map is their numerous highlighter products. From liquids to powders, there are an incredible range of options in their luminizer categories, and many are superb.

Surveying the rest of this line revealed that Williams not only did her homework for foundation shades, the eyeshadows are amazingly silky, and many of their products for lips and cheeks are exemplary. Lastly, almost all of the makeup brushes from Becca are aces, and the options plentiful, especially for eye designs.

Strengths: Excellent concealers, foundations, highlighters and eyeshadows; good lip gloss; several outstanding brushes.

Weaknesses: Beats us, this is a strong collection of products.

Becca is available at Sephora, Ulta and via their Web site.
