With the recent resurgence of color correcting, many of our readers wanted us to revisit one of our original reviews in the category: Bobbi Brown's Corrector. Although in concept there's a lot to like, the execution is left wanting, which is why this doesn't rank among the top color correctors we've tried.

Corrector comes in a small plastic pot with a flip-top lid in Bobbi Brown's standard black packaging. The texture is creamy without being greasy, and it's easy to apply and blend either with fingers or with a makeup brush.

This fragrance-free product comes in a number of shades (more than 20!), all of them with a noticeably peach or pink base. These undertones are designed to neutralize the brownish or blueish-purple appearance of dark circles. Those with peach or pink-based skin tones might find they can use Corrector on its own, but for all other skin tones, this is meant to be used under concealer as an extra brightening step.

Corrector does indeed neutralize undereye darkness and provide a brightening effect, yet its coverage is quite sheer. If you have very dark or deep-set circles you'll need to pile this on, and then it begins to look cakey. This also doesn't wear well over time, emphasizing fine lines and wrinkles (to a very noticeable extent) as the day wears on. This unwelcome effect happens whether Corrector is used on its own or under concealer.

Overall, while not a bad product, for the price and mixed bag performance, it doesn't deliver the impact on dark circles to make it a worthwhile extra step. For superior correcting options, see our list of Best Concealer & Correctors.

Pros:
  • Brightens undereye area and softens the look of dark circles.
  • Moisturizing yet non-greasy formula.
  • Fragrance free.
Cons:
  • Coverage is sheer, and adding more product leads to caking.
  • Noticeably emphasizes fine lines and wrinkles as the day wears on.

Brand Overview

Bobbi Brown At-A-Glance

Strengths: A good cleanser and eye makeup removers; some impressive foundations, with options for all skin types and preferences; very good blushes and eyeshadows (powder and cream); several top-notch mascaras; mostly excellent brushes.

Weaknesses: Multiple moisturizers in jar packaging, otherwise great products hindered with irritating fragrant oils or fragrance components.

It all began with lipsticks. In 1991, New York based makeup artist Bobbi Brown debuted a collection of ten lipsticks at Bergdorf Goodman, expecting to sell about one hundred units in a month. She sold more than that the first day. From there, it's been mostly success after success, as Brown launched her classic foundation stick, wrote her first book, Bobbi Brown Beauty The Ultimate Beauty Resource, and enjoyed continued attention as an in-demand makeup artist and beauty educator.

Today, Bobbi Brown's makeup that continues to excel with superior foundations, true matte blushes and eyeshadows, and with all of the other basics that are essential to anyone’s makeup wardrobe. It isn't the least bit surprising that this makeup collection continues to do so well, because for many it's one-stop shopping that combines classic makeup application techniques with enough fun-yet-functional products to keep customer's interest piqued season to season.

Turning to the skincare collection, there are a few excellent formulas, but unfortunately, many are packaged in a jar, which means their beneficial ingredients are rendered useless due to air exposure (and bacterial contamination from spatulas or fingers). In addition, some suffer from the inclusion of potent fragrant essential oils. Those that should be avoided are noted in their respective reviews. That aside, color is without a doubt Bobbi Brown's strong point—but you will find a few sleeper hits among the selection of skincare products.
