If you're on the hunt for a luminizing product that gives skin a healthy-looking glow, Bobbi Brown's Face Highlighter might just be what the doctor ordered! The lightweight, creamy-fluid formula blends beautifully into skin to add a dash of radiance, whether applied on its own or mixed in with other products (foundation, moisturizer, etc.).

The sheer formula comes in three gorgeous shades that adapt well to a variety of skin tones and skin types, making this a foolproof highlighter for almost anyone. Our only disappointment is the price (the cost per ounce is steeper than the competition—Becca's iconic Shimmering Skin Perfector, for example), but if that doesn't bother you, then by all means, keep reading…

Face Highlighter comes in small, black bottle with a pump dispenser. Initially creamy, the lightweight, fragrance-free formula thins out as it blends into skin, imparting a beautiful sheen that doesn't look or feel the least bit greasy. It's fluid enough to layer easily with skincare or makeup, but isn't so slick that it lacks control when applied with your fingertips or brush.

Of the shades currently offered, there's "Pink" (a soft, pearlized pink hue that works well for fair to light skin tones), "Seashell (light golden tones ideal for light to medium complexions), and "Sunlight Bronze" (a soft golden bronze perfect for deeper skin tones). Each does its job beautifully whether applied strategically to highlight or allover for a luminous glow. Interestingly, at the time of this review, BobbiBrown.com only offers two shades while other retailers (Nordstrom, Saks, etc.) carry all three.

Bobbi Brown doesn't make claims about Face Highlighter's prowess as an anti-aging formula, but we were happy to see a beneficial mix of plant oils and other skin-repairing ingredients made the roster. Consider these an unexpected side benefit. Note, despite the fact this contains numerous non-fragrant plant oils, it truly is an all-skin types formula—especially given you need just a tiny amount to create a glow on skin.

In the end, Bobbi Brown's Face Highlighter earns a spot on our Best list due to its finely milled, candlelit-glow that's suitable for a variety of skin tones and skin types, among other admirable attributes. It's not exactly the most cost effective option on the block, but it's an excellent product nonetheless!

Pros:
  • Finely-milled, candlelit-glow beautifully highlights skin.
  • Shades to complement various skin tones.
  • Lightweight, non-greasy formula is workable for any skin type.
  • Blends and layers beautifully, whether applied on its own or mixed in with other products.
  • Fluid yet creamy texture is easy to apply with fingertips or brush.
  • Fragrance-free formula includes skin-beneficial ingredients as an extra perk.
Cons:
  • Steeper cost per ounce than most of its high-end competitors.

Brand Overview

Bobbi Brown At-A-Glance

Strengths: A good cleanser and eye makeup removers; some impressive foundations, with options for all skin types and preferences; very good blushes and eyeshadows (powder and cream); several top-notch mascaras; mostly excellent brushes.

Weaknesses: Multiple moisturizers in jar packaging, otherwise great products hindered with irritating fragrant oils or fragrance components.

It all began with lipsticks. In 1991, New York based makeup artist Bobbi Brown debuted a collection of ten lipsticks at Bergdorf Goodman, expecting to sell about one hundred units in a month. She sold more than that the first day. From there, it's been mostly success after success, as Brown launched her classic foundation stick, wrote her first book, Bobbi Brown Beauty The Ultimate Beauty Resource, and enjoyed continued attention as an in-demand makeup artist and beauty educator.

Today, Bobbi Brown's makeup that continues to excel with superior foundations, true matte blushes and eyeshadows, and with all of the other basics that are essential to anyone’s makeup wardrobe. It isn't the least bit surprising that this makeup collection continues to do so well, because for many it's one-stop shopping that combines classic makeup application techniques with enough fun-yet-functional products to keep customer's interest piqued season to season.

Turning to the skincare collection, there are a few excellent formulas, but unfortunately, many are packaged in a jar, which means their beneficial ingredients are rendered useless due to air exposure (and bacterial contamination from spatulas or fingers). In addition, some suffer from the inclusion of potent fragrant essential oils. Those that should be avoided are noted in their respective reviews. That aside, color is without a doubt Bobbi Brown's strong point—but you will find a few sleeper hits among the selection of skincare products.
