Review Overview

Naturally Ageless Intensive Repairing Serum consists of a blend of oils, most of which are helpful for dry to very dry skin; but dry skin and wrinkles are not associated, so the ageless claim is unwarranted. It is also mislabeled as a serum, when it is really more an oil mix, and the oils in this product are easily replaced by those available in any health food store, Then you won’t have to risk irritation from the bitter orange and rose oils this product contains.

Claims

Target fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, mouth and forehead with this concentrated serum. It contains antioxidant-rich pomegranate to fight skin-damaging free radicals, as well as borage and evening primrose oils, which help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by strengthening skin's moisture barrier.

Ingredients

Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Tritium Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Oil, Rosa Damascena (Bulgarian Rose) Flower Oil, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Oil, Tocopherol, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Vegetable Oil, Beta Carotene

Brand Overview

Strengths: Inexpensive.

Weaknesses: Many products have potent fragranced formulas; several formulas packaged in jars, which compromises their ingredients.

With humble beginnings in the town of Bangor, Maine, Burt's Bees is a brand focused on natural-themed, earth-friendly skincare. Unfortunately, in many cases, this also translates to less than beneficial formulas as not all of the natural ingredients used are helpful for skin.

Many of the plant extracts and oils used in these products, including orange oil, cinnamon oil, clove oil, lemon oil, eucalyptus oil, pine tar, alcohol, lime oil, and balsam peru, are problematic for skin and present a significant risk of irritation or a sensitizing reaction. Both the intriguing philosophy and inexpensive products are attractive, but it takes more than that to establish reliable products that are good for skin. It’s also important to consider the potential benefit (or potential harm) of the ingredients used.

There are some formulas to consider among the brand’s offerings, but some to be wary of—see our individual reviews on Burt’s Bees products for more details.

Outstanding Product

I tanned 3-4 times a week for last 3 yrs; have been using retinol, 10% BP gel, an alcohol-based toner, 2% BHA gel, & myriad BHA washes. Ran out of this oil 6 months ago; & stopped tanning & started using SPF 50+ 1.5 mths ago, & fine lines appeared after the tanning stopped. Get it? This oil is amazing and was doing ALL the work, 2 drops, 2x a day. Dry skin absolutely = more wrinkles. Oiled skin always bounces back better than drier skin. Also totally healed, soothed skin and scars. #Rocks!
