Unlike, oh... 99% of the baby lotions out there, CeraVe saw the light and omitted fragrance. Yes, fragrance is a strong pull for adults (and who doesn’t love a sweet-smelling baby?) but fragrance can be a strong source of irritation for baby’s tender skin. This baby lotion serves up a  great mix of soothing emollients, niacinamide for barrier support, ceramides for repair, and soothing agents to keep redness to a minimum while potentially helping to control signs of eczema.

Although this isn’t the last word in moisturizing—it’s not a balm or even all that creamy--  it’s an excellent all-over lotion for babies with dry skin or adults with dry, sensitive skin. It is also unquestionably one of the best baby-care product buys out there! Harried parents will appreciate that this lotion is easily dispensed via its built-in pump!

One more comment: The claim that this is phthalate- and paraben-free may grab attention, but pure phthalates are never added to personal care products—though they can be a component of fragrances. As for parabens, despite media hype, they are not the health-harming, evil ingredients they’re made out to be, and in fact are among the gentlest preservatives.

Pros:

  • Gentle, fragrance-free formula.
  • Moisturizes without feeling greasy or too slick.
  • Unusually good mix of repairing and soothing ingredients.
  • Inexpensive given the impressive formula; absolutely worth the splurge compared to standard baby lotions.
  • The bottle includes a pump for easy dispensing.

Cons:

  • None.

Brand Overview

CeraVe At-A-Glance

This expanding collection of skincare products keeps things gentle and effective with fragrance-free formulas, many of which are more state-of-the-art than any other product in its price range or pricier versions at the drugstore. In short, this line is a real find!

CeraVe uses a delivery system the company refers to as Multivesicular Emulsion Technology, which releases key ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid over a period of several hours. Although this technology is undoubtedly helpful, such time-delayed delivery systems aren't unique to CeraVe, and the fact remains that most of the ingredients they use are very helpful on their own, no matter what delivery system you use.

The important point is that ongoing, consistent use of this kind of moisturizer designed to repair the skin's barrier function will result in smoother, softer, healthier skin.

It is for these reasons that most CeraVe products are definitely worth considering, especially at this price. You'll find a options for moisturizing, cleansing, broad spectrum sun protection, and baby care.
