CeraVe's Intensive Stretch Marks Cream is loaded with skin-repairing and cell-communicating ingredients, along with a mix of antioxidants and emollients that makes good on its promise to repair and restore the skin's barrier. You'll find a nice mix of plant butters (cocoa, shea and mango), along with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, argan oil, and a peptide; this is a very good moisturizer for use anywhere on the body.

Bonus: It's fragrance free and packaged in a tube to protect the light and air-sensitive ingredients. But for stretch marks? Well, don't get your hopes up. Intensive Stretch Marks Cream earned a Beautypedia BEST for its impressive ingredient deck, not for its ability to make good on its claims to improve the appearance of stretch marks.

When skin develops a "stretch mark", this is literally the stretching and breaking of elastic bands deep beneath the surface layers of skin—once this occurs, nothing applied topically will repair them. For more information about this topic, check our article, Stretch Marks: What Works (and What Doesn't). We'll warn you now, there's some hope, but the scientific and medical conclusions are a little depressing for those of us afflicted with vexing stretch marks.

That aside, this is absolutely a wonderful option to consider for a dry-skin moisturizer without sunscreen, above or below the neck. If you do use Intensive Stretch Marks Cream on your face or eye area, it's likely a better choice for your evening routine as its richer texture may not be ideal under your sunscreen and makeup.

Pros:
  • Includes an impressive mix of anti-aging ingredients.
  • Substantial cream contains ingredients proven to repair and strengthen skin's barrier.
  • Fragrance free and packaged to protect its light and air-sensitive ingredients.
  • Affordable given it's state of the art formula for dry, sensitive skin.
Cons:
  • Cannot repair or improve the appearance of stretch marks any better than other moisturizers, because in truth there's not much that can be done to improve stretch marks.

Cerave Intensive Stretch Mark Cream minimizes the appearance of stretch marks. It also provides a controlled release of ingredients to help repair and restore the protective skin barrier, which is a vital part of your daily skincare routine. With our unique patented multivesicular emulsion delivery technology, this nourishing cream provides multiple layers of restorative ingredients to the skin slowly over time

Purified Water, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Ceteareth-20, Panthenol, Butyrospemum Parkii (Shea Butter), Prunus Domestica Seed Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Mangiera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Petrolatum, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-11, Ceramide 1, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Calendula Officianalis Extract, Palmitoyl Tripepetide-5, Lactic Acid, Dimethicone, Salicylic Acid, Zinc Citrate, Sodium Citrate, Phenoxyethanol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Potassium Phosphate, Sodium PCA, Triethanolamine, Dipotassium Phosphate, Isopropyl Myristate, Ehtylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Marribium Vulgare Extract, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Sodium EDTA, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, 1,2-Hexanedoil, Caprylyl Glycol

This small collection of skin-care products keeps things gentle and effective with fragrance-free formulas that can be considered more state-of-the-art than any other product in its price range or pricier versions at the drugstore. CeraVe uses a delivery system the company refers to as Multivesicular Emulsion Technology, which releases key ingredients such as ceramides (they actually include three different ceramides: I, III, and VI, which is rather unique and great for skin) and hyaluronic acid over a period of several hours. Although this technology is undoubtedly helpful, such time-delayed delivery systems aren't unique to CeraVe, and the fact remains that most of the ingredients they use are very helpful on their own, no matter what delivery system you use. The important point is that ongoing, consistent use of this kind of moisturizer designed to repair the skin's barrier function will result in smoother, softer, healthier skin. An interesting element for this product is the inclusion of phytosphingosine. It is an ingredient that research shows is effective in regulating damaged or diseased epithelial cells. It seems this ingredient can be a cell-communicating ingredient, albeit one that is best for compromised skin. However, given CeraVe is positioned for those struggling with psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea, that's a great addition. (Source: Journal of Investigative Dermatology, October 2003, pages 1135–1137).

It is for these reasons that all the CeraVe products are definitely worth considering, especially at this price.

A fabulous product for the face!
    • I too, would not have known about this cream were it not for the Paula's Choice review. Yes, it's intended for the body, but I've been using it for two + months as my night cream, and in the morning my dry, sensitive, rosacea-prone skin is smooth, cool and soothed. It's very rich, yet it absorbs quickly, even when layered over my PC serum. In short, this is the night cream I've been dreaming of - and for an amazing price. I've already purchased two replacement tubes.

    Another great recommendation
    • Thank you Beautypedia for recommending another great product that wouldn't have been on my radar otherwise. It's a little hard to find. I finally found it and ordered it from the Ulta website. It's fragrance-free and moisturizing but not too greasy. I also intend to use this around the eyes. Great price for a great product. I'm sure I'll repurchase.
