Review Overview

DailyAdvance Lotion fits in nicely with Cetaphil's range of simple, fragrance-free moisturizers for face and body. The Daily Advance version isn't all that advanced, but it is a good option for dry to very dry skin types needing a bland yet effective moisturizer to ease and prevent dryness, which is why it earns a good, three-star rating.

This creamy, slightly greasy moisturizer's sole antioxidant is vitamin E (not too inventive and rather lonely), but the amount is more reasonable than what's seen in many expensive moisturizers that brag about their vitamin E content. Also included in the formula are proven skin-identical and emollient ingredients like glycerin and shea butter, both of which will help soothe dry skin.

This claims to be fragrance-free, but contains fragrance in the form of farnesol, an alcohol whose floral odor contributes to the smell of many essential oils, including citronella. Farnesol in this small amount isn't likely to cause problems, but its presence makes the company's fragrance-free claim inaccurate. Otherwise, DailyAdvance Lotion has a worthy formula, and one we recommend!

  • Creamy formula contains a good amount of vitamin E.
  • Contains proven skin-identical and emollient ingredients to soothe dry skin.
  • Not completely fragrance-free as claimed.

Cetaphil DailyAdvance® Lotion is designed for all-over body use - head to toes. It is fast acting, long lasting and great on even the toughest, extra-dry skin.

Brand Overview

Cetaphil At-A-Glance

This familiar, widely distributed skin-care collection is manufactured by Galderma, the same company that markets the prescription products Differin and MetroGel.  Given the dermatology heritage of Galderma, it's surprising the Cetaphil line hasn't advanced beyond the basics. Yes, most of what's available is a safe bet for those with sensitive skin!

If you're in search of simplicity, this is a good line to consider. We should note that many of the formulas omit more complex anti-aging ingredients, but they can always be used alongside a serum or treatment of your choosing.

Strengths: Inexpensive; mostly fragrance-free products; affordable and widely available; offers complete ingredient lists on its website; the sunscreens offer sufficient UVA protection.

Weaknesses:A few formulas could be updated with more complex ingredients, but forgoing that there is a lot to like here.

Recommend it to patients

I use this 1-2 times daily. I find that putting it on while my skin is still damp from the shower truly unlocks it's potential. It's easier to apply and is not at all greasy once the skin has dried. It leaves my skin so soft. I have keratosis Pilaris and this is the only non-medicated cream I currently use. I also recommend it to my patients who have eczema or irritated skin. Another emollient plus cetaphil works great.

I got this as a sample product. Just like the Cop's review, this is a very simple moisturizer. Very ordinary. I use it as an occasional hand cream. I appreciate the fact that they don't make absurd claims like other brands though.
