Cetaphil's Restoraderm Eczema Calming Body Moisturizer is the brand's most advanced moisturizer, and a good option when it comes to healing the itchy, red skin that's the hallmark of eczema. Thanks to a number of beneficial ingredients, it lives up to its claims, which is why it gets our highest, four-star rating.

Like most of Cetaphil's moisturizers, Restoraderm Eczema Calming Body Moisturizer comes in a plastic bottle with a pump-style dispenser. It's fragrance-free (always good news for inflamed skin) and somewhat thick, though it absorbs easily in to skin.

While the formula isn't the most powerhouse when it comes to products for eczema, there are still plenty of ingredients here to soothe dry, irritated skin. They include skin identical ingredients like glycerin, emollients such as sunflower seed oil and shea butter, the anti-irritant allantoin, along with a small amount of antioxidant niacinamide and even a ceramide, hydroxypalmitoyl sphinganine. All of these will help repair skin's barrier, and that's a big step in healing eczema (a condition in which the skin's barrier is damaged).

Overall, it's a good, non-irritating option for a moisturizer for dry or sensitive skin, and one we recommend!

Pros:
  • Fragrance-free.
  • Contains skin-identical ingredients, beneficial emollients, and niacinamide to help repair skin's barrier.
Cons:
  • None.

Brand Overview

Cetaphil At-A-Glance

This familiar, widely distributed skin-care collection is manufactured by Galderma, the same company that markets the prescription products Differin and MetroGel.  Given the dermatology heritage of Galderma, it's surprising the Cetaphil line hasn't advanced beyond the basics. Yes, most of what's available is a safe bet for those with sensitive skin!

If you're in search of simplicity, this is a good line to consider. We should note that many of the formulas omit more complex anti-aging ingredients, but they can always be used alongside a serum or treatment of your choosing.

Strengths: Inexpensive; mostly fragrance-free products; affordable and widely available; offers complete ingredient lists on its website; the sunscreens offer sufficient UVA protection.

Weaknesses:A few formulas could be updated with more complex ingredients, but forgoing that there is a lot to like here.
