There's a lot to love about Charlotte Tilbury's Full Fat Lashes 5 Star Mascara, including its ability to build thickness without clumping, how soft it leaves lashes, and its easy removal at the end of the night. So what's the downfall? Its propensity to smudge under certain conditions. Nevertheless, if you don't typically have an issue with mascara smudging don't count yourself out just yet—you may be able to reap the dramatic volumizng benefits of this fragrance-free mascara without issue.

Full Fat Lashes 5 Star Mascara comes in one Glossy Black shade and features a traditional soft bristle brush with a slightly tapered tip. As mentioned above, one of the most notable attributes of the formula is how soft it leaves lashes—so much so, that you can easily reapply this mascara throughout the day without it flaking, feeling crunchy, looking spidery or getting stuck in lashes. In fact, allowing the formula to dry in between coats is one of the better ways to build thickness with this mascara, and amazingly it continues to define rather than clump lashes together. That's a rare and impressive quality for a mascara! You also get a bit of lengthening, but really, it's all about the volume building as the Full Fat Lashes name implies.

We also found it very convenient that Full Fat Lashes 5 Star Mascara washes off easier than most, but as a tradeoff, the pliable formula tends to smudge more easily. Those who use emollient products around the eye area during the day or are prone to lashes that brush against skin, be forewarned that this mascara may cause a case of raccoon eyes.

In the end, if defined lashes with dramatically buildable thickness are what you're after, and you aren't prone to smudging mascara, Full Fat Lashes 5 Star Mascara is a phenomenal, flake-free option try. The only other drawback is if you need a mascara that can hold curl well—this soft-hold formula won't do that, but otherwise you can count on flutter-worthy, beautiful lashes.

Pros:
  • Beautifully builds thickness without clumping.
  • Leaves lashes soft so you can reapply throughout the day without flaking.
  • Easy to remove.
  • Fragrance-free.
Cons:
  • Those prone to mascara smudging are more likely to experience that with this formula.

Brand Overview

Charlotte Tilbury At-A-Glance

Charlotte Tilbury’s journey into creating her own makeup line began back in her teen years when she discovered the transformative power of makeup. Fast-forward several years and celebrity clients later, Tilbury made a name for herself as a makeup artist who epitomized the glamorous beauty of the supermodel era in the 90’s. Along the way, she became a consultant for beauty brands, and eventually decided to create her own line of makeup and select skincare products in 2013.

One of the strong suits of Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup is her take on color. The woman knows her way around flattering a complexion and making features pop, and you can see that in her shade range. That doesn’t mean you won’t find some misses along the way, but as a whole, the line offers an impressive selection of color.

Tilbury’s skincare, on the other hand, doesn’t fare quite as well. Between the use of jar packaging and some highly fragranced formulas, skin is left compromised (see individual reviews for details).

In no small way Tilbury’s years of painting beautiful faces has helped shape what her makeup line is today. If you don’t mind the $$$ factor, it’s worth taking a look at the standouts which earn our highest rating.

Strengths: Excellent color selection; natural-looking foundation and concealer.

Weaknesses: The iconic Magic Cream comes in a jar; some highly fragranced formulas.
