Review Overview

This BB cream is an exceptionally sheer tinted moisturizer that imparts the smallest amount of color to the skin. The three shades are all worth considering, but keep in mind these are very sheer, so dark circles or red discolorations will require a concealer.

The fragrance-free formula has a lightweight lotion texture and minimally moist finish. The sunscreen is in-part zinc oxide, making this product appropriate for normal to slightly dry or slightly oily skin. The formula could certainly be more state-of-the-art but is recommended as a reliable tinted moisturizer with broad-spectrum sunscreen nonetheless.

Note: This product was formerly in the CoverGirl line as CG Smoothers SPF 15 Tinted Moisture (which is all the more proof that BB Creams tend to be just a new marketing spin on tinted moisturizers).

Claims

CG Smoothers SPF 15 Tinted Moisture combines lightweight moisturizers with a wash of sheer color to help cover tiny imperfections and smooth skin tone for a healthy looking glow. SPF 15 shields your skin from the damaging effects of the sun. Skin feels soft, looks smooth!

Brand Overview

CoverGirl At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive and widely available; a hugely improved selection of foundations, several with reliable sunscreen; good concealers; enviable pressed powders; some fantastic Lash Blast mascaras; mostly great eyelining options; a vast selection of lip color options, from the long-wearing Outlast to sheer lip glosses to the wholly impressive Lip Perfection lipstick; several great options in the Queen Collection.

Weaknesses: The older foundations are seriously lacking; the newer Advanced Radiance foundation has great texture but disappointing SPF rating; powder blush and eyeshadows; terrible makeup brushes; all of the "Clean" products contain irritating ingredients.

Since 1961, CoverGirl has been slowly building a portfolio of cosmetics that today is about as all-encompassing as a makeup line can be. Originating from the same "medicated" ingredients found in Noxzema Skin Cream (which was never medicated in the least, but seriously irritating for skin), the debut products are still available, albeit with slight modifications. The good news is that for the past several years CoverGirl has consistently updated their line with some very impressive products, especially their foundations, concealers, and vastly improved pressed powders. They also offer some excellent eye and lip pencils, lipsticks and lip gloss, and one of the all-time best long-wearing lip paints, Outlast.

What's puzzling is that although many of CoverGirl's latest products are progressive, they tend to hang on to the lackluster-to-poor options, including abysmal powder blush and eyeshadows and their long-standing, very irritating Clean Makeup. These items may be part of CoverGirl's humble beginnings, but you certainly don't see parent company Proctor & Gamble adding eucalyptus oil and menthol to their Olay products or to products of any of the other cosmetics companies they own. If those ingredients were so important, why not use them everywhere? Needless to say, the great products outnumber the disappointments, and the prices make it easy for those on a budget to be beautiful and enjoy some state-of-the-art products, provided they shop wisely.

CoverGirl's Web site is extremely easy to navigate, and presents a wealth of product information, along with practical (if somewhat cutesy) tips and tricks for successful makeup application and for finding the shades that work best for you. CoverGirl's consumer relations department is consistently helpful if you have any questions or concerns. For example, if one of your favorite items was discontinued, you might want to know what replaced it, and they will let you know. Such service and customer concern is yet another powerful reason to believe CoverGirl really has its (class) act together.

Great for sensitive/combo/acne prone skin

Yes its a thin bb cream, but my Holy Grail! Tried many other foundations, which don't last all day/break me out. This is how I do my makeup everyday, the combo of these products really work. Makeup stays put for hrs, and MOST importantly doesn't break me out. Products: 1)CG bb cream 2)CG ready set gorgeous concealer dabbed all over and smoothed in with bb cream 3)mac studio finish concealer where needed. 4)nyx concealer stick-only for undereyes 5)CG smoother pressed powder applied w makeup brush

Too shiny

I have slightly oily skin, so this cream is too "dewy" for me. I need to wear powder over it. The light to medium is an excellent color but it's really far too sheer to be worn as a foundation.

The BEST

Truly great especially if you are not much of a "heavy" make-up user. BEAUTIFUL, LIGHT, DEWY coverage with benefits. Since switching to this product I cannot believe how many "You look fabulous" compliments I have received. Thankfully my make-up search is OVER now that I have found this!!!!!

Good news!

This product no longer comes with SPF 15. It now comes with SPF 21 protection which makes a good product even better!! It still gives light coverage and goes on very smoothly. The light to medium tint works well for my fair to ruddy looking skin. This is a great bargain for those looking for a good sunscreen with a tint.

Long time fan

I prefer a tinted moisturiser for daily wear and a friend recommended this to me many years ago- back when it was CG Smoothers tinted moisturiser. It's been faithful to its claims and despite my wasting money trying other products, nothing ever compares to this. It's light. It's natural in colour. It's dewy without being greasy and shiny. And I stock up everytime its on sale. I use a pressed powder to set it & increase the coverage slightly and no one ever knows I'm wearing makeup.

Love this product

I love this Cover-girl BB cream. It is light on the skin and give good coverage with 15 sunscreen and moisturizer. # 805 Fair to light is perfect for my skin, does not clog pores , lasts all day. My Chanel makeup is a bit heavier however I find my self using the BB cream because it gives my face a radiant glow. Love it can't say enough good things about It.

Great for Truly Fair Skin

I have very light, mature, normal to slightly dry skin and this product in the lightest shade (805 Fair to Light) is a dream come true. It is the ONLY tinted sunscreen that is light enough for me & I have wasted a lot of money trying lots of others. The tint disappears into my skin & the finish gives a lovely dewy glow. So many products claim to be "dewy" when they should say "shiny" or "greasy"! I never powder over this CG product. The dewy finish is a plus in & of itself. I love it!

GREAT MOISTURIZER

After trying several different tinted BB creams I am happy to settle on this one. It claims to be a tinted moisturizer and that is exactly what it does for me. Not so interested in coverage. Love the sheerness. Blends in very well with my skin tone (light/medium) and doesn't dry out or accentuate lines as the others do. Works very well over Paula's C serum and Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer. I am very happy with this product.

Great Base

I have normal skin. This is the only thing that helps my FOUNDATION last throughout my 12 hour shift! You CANNOT use this cream for primary coverage, it is way.. too thin, However it is perfect for me in this order (may find extensive, but makes a flawless base): -BB Cream -Coverup: blemishes, eyes -Foundation -Powder (Touchup throughout the day) If I skip the BB Cream, my foundation becomes blotchy and wear off throughout the day. Great Moisturizer-SPF-Base.
