Overview

This fragranced cream lipstick is as close to perfection as you'll find at the drugstore! Between the feather-light feel, semi-matte finish, and incredible staying power, it's a winner for CoverGirl and you.

The shade range is quite good, including trendy "runway-inspired" colors as well as classic pink, rose, red, nude, coral, and brown tones, and the pigmentation these have make them a great value.

Pros:
  • Rich color application and exceptional staying power.
  • Lightweight, non-greasy feel on lips
  • Gorgeous range of contemporary shades that are divided into color groups, making shopping easy.
  • Red lipstick fans take note: The Hot shade is a drugstore double for M.A.C's Russian Red
Cons:
  • None, unless you prefer fragrance-free lipstick
More Info:

The claims about this lipstick creating "soft, smooth, beautiful lips in 7 days" refer to the combination of moisturizing ingredients Cover Girl calls "Silk Therapy Complex." Although this lipstick does have an impressively smooth texture that leaves lips feeling moisturized (but not greasy), the added beneficial ingredients are present in such small amounts that the claims of being a treatment product are over the top.

Claims

Bright, gorgeous color that can transform your day and your lips. Enriched with a silk moisturizing complex, our formula helps sustain moisture levels and helps create soft, smooth, beautiful lips in just 7 days.

Brand Overview

CoverGirl At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive and widely available; a hugely improved selection of foundations, several with reliable sunscreen; good concealers; enviable pressed powders; some fantastic Lash Blast mascaras; mostly great eyelining options; a vast selection of lip color options, from the long-wearing Outlast to sheer lip glosses to the wholly impressive Lip Perfection lipstick; several great options in the Queen Collection.

Weaknesses: The older foundations are seriously lacking; the newer Advanced Radiance foundation has great texture but disappointing SPF rating; powder blush and eyeshadows; terrible makeup brushes; all of the "Clean" products contain irritating ingredients.

Since 1961, CoverGirl has been slowly building a portfolio of cosmetics that today is about as all-encompassing as a makeup line can be. Originating from the same "medicated" ingredients found in Noxzema Skin Cream (which was never medicated in the least, but seriously irritating for skin), the debut products are still available, albeit with slight modifications. The good news is that for the past several years CoverGirl has consistently updated their line with some very impressive products, especially their foundations, concealers, and vastly improved pressed powders. They also offer some excellent eye and lip pencils, lipsticks and lip gloss, and one of the all-time best long-wearing lip paints, Outlast.

What's puzzling is that although many of CoverGirl's latest products are progressive, they tend to hang on to the lackluster-to-poor options, including abysmal powder blush and eyeshadows and their long-standing, very irritating Clean Makeup. These items may be part of CoverGirl's humble beginnings, but you certainly don't see parent company Proctor & Gamble adding eucalyptus oil and menthol to their Olay products or to products of any of the other cosmetics companies they own. If those ingredients were so important, why not use them everywhere? Needless to say, the great products outnumber the disappointments, and the prices make it easy for those on a budget to be beautiful and enjoy some state-of-the-art products, provided they shop wisely.

CoverGirl's Web site is extremely easy to navigate, and presents a wealth of product information, along with practical (if somewhat cutesy) tips and tricks for successful makeup application and for finding the shades that work best for you. CoverGirl's consumer relations department is consistently helpful if you have any questions or concerns. For example, if one of your favorite items was discontinued, you might want to know what replaced it, and they will let you know. Such service and customer concern is yet another powerful reason to believe CoverGirl really has its (class) act together.

Great feel, disgusting taste

Got this in Creme, which is a fantastic nude for my light skin. Liked the color on my hand, and it felt creamy and easy to apply. Got it home and put it on my lips. Yuck! Terrible flavor, like eating perfume. Ugh! Even my husband asked me not to wear it cuz it tasted so bad when he kissed me! Does the horrible flavor bother no one else? I find it to be a problem with most drugstore lipsticks (although NYX is manageable). So, if the taste doesn't bother you, go for it!

I Was Ready To Give This 4 Stars Until . . .

I bought a couple of lovely light, cool, pink shades that were on sale at my local drugstore. They felt wonderfully marvelous on my lips, and the creaminess lasted longer than other lipsticks I'd tried. Then, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror a few hours after application. My light pink lips had turned a hideous shade of weird, bright, neon orange! I have this same problem with all of the lipsticks Avon makes and has ever made, no matter what new formula they come up with.

A hidden gem!!

I will take this lipstick any day over lipsticks from Lancôme, Chanel, MAC etc. The colors are modern, sophisticated and cover a wide range of shades. I own about 7 of them and every single one is incredible. The shade Precious is one of a kind universal medium warm pink/red. The texture of these lipsticks is very thin and comfortable, the color stays on for hours and I don't think I need to say anything about the price!!! I could use a little less fragrance, but that's the only small drawback.

Fabulous Lipstick

This is the best lipstick on the market. Great texture, price and staying power. I am disappointed because Covergirl has discontinued the colour Impassion 215. This was a unique, gorgeous and exotic medium coral copper with a subtle shimmer that provided depth. There is no match for this colour anywhere on the market. It makes no sense why Covergirl would discontinue the best colour they have ever made. Paula, you should consider reproducing the colour and texture and have a bestseller.

good color, good staying power, bleeds

Great colors, good staying power, not drying on lips. Only complaint I have is it bleeds into the fine lines around my lips. If you are a young lady & don't need to worry about the fine lines around your lip (I didn't know they existed until my mid thirties!) this lipstick is a good value. However, for me, that bleeding in the fine lines around the lips is a deal breaker and I will not be purchasing it again.

Staying Power

The only reason I didn't give this product a 4 (Best) rating is that, although the color lasts almost all day, it is drying and by the end of the day my lips are sore. NO peeling or signs of true allergy, just sore lips and some dryness. I like to wear this lipstick when I need color to stay, and once it is on for 10 minutes I reapply and then top it with my favorite thick gloss or another more emollient lipstick. Color will fade some, but only needs an occasional app of gloss throughout day
