Clean Makeup Sensitive Skin mercifully omits the sickly sweet scent that is present in the Clean Makeup Normal Skin formula, as well as the irritating extracts. Unfortunately, most of the shades are just too strongly peach, pink, or rose for most skin tones. The only shades worth considering are Ivory, Classic Ivory, and Soft Honey. The formula has a beautifully lightweight, silky texture that provides light coverage and is easy to blend. The finish is soft matte but again, the shades are mostly awful.

Even if you can find a decent shade, this is ill-suited for sensitive skin because it contains the fragrance ingredient ethylene brassylate.

Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Propylene Glycol, Talc, Glycerin, PEG/PPG 18/18 Dimethicone, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Cyclomethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Laureth 7, Arachidyl Behenate, Silica, Trihydroxystearin, Propylparaben, Methicone, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Methylparaben, Synthetic Wax, Trisodium EDTA, Ethylene Brassylate, Stearic Acid May Contain: Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Mica

Since 1961, CoverGirl has been slowly building a portfolio of cosmetics that today is about as all-encompassing as a makeup line can be. Originating from the same "medicated" ingredients found in Noxzema Skin Cream (which was never medicated in the least, but seriously irritating for skin), the debut products are still available, albeit with slight modifications. The good news is that for the past several years CoverGirl has consistently updated their line with some very impressive products, especially their foundations, concealers, and vastly improved pressed powders. They also offer some excellent eye and lip pencils, lipsticks and lip gloss, and one of the all-time best long-wearing lip paints, Outlast.

What's puzzling is that although many of CoverGirl's latest products are progressive, they tend to hang on to the lackluster-to-poor options, including abysmal powder blush and eyeshadows and their long-standing, very irritating Clean Makeup. These items may be part of CoverGirl's humble beginnings, but you certainly don't see parent company Proctor & Gamble adding eucalyptus oil and menthol to their Olay products or to products of any of the other cosmetics companies they own. If those ingredients were so important, why not use them everywhere? Needless to say, the great products outnumber the disappointments, and the prices make it easy for those on a budget to be beautiful and enjoy some state-of-the-art products, provided they shop wisely.

CoverGirl's Web site is extremely easy to navigate, and presents a wealth of product information, along with practical (if somewhat cutesy) tips and tricks for successful makeup application and for finding the shades that work best for you. CoverGirl's consumer relations department is consistently helpful if you have any questions or concerns. For example, if one of your favorite items was discontinued, you might want to know what replaced it, and they will let you know. Such service and customer concern is yet another powerful reason to believe CoverGirl really has its (class) act together.

    I like it!
    • I personally really like this foundation. The coverage is perfect for when the sheerness of the PC foundations just isn't working for me. Without fragrance, it has a strong "chemical makeup" smell but luckily it's very tolerable and fades quickly (and I'd prefer it over fragrance anyway!). Most of the colors are odd, but I found that "warm beige" was a beautiful yellow-toned medium shade and I got compliments wearing it. It doesn't compare to PC but it's inexpensive and widely available!

Super foundation at a great price
    • This foundation has light to medium coverage and a slightly dewy finish that looks great on my normal to dry skin. There is no noticeable fragrance whatsoever. I have sensitive skin and this has not bothered me at all. If you have used Cover Girl foundations before, be aware that the shades are all slightly different from one foundation to the next. This one is lighter than the same shade in Advanced Radiance, and quite a bit lighter than the same shade in Outlast 3 in 1. The glass bottle is not ideal, but it's still way better than a squeeze bottle. Besides, the price is right. This goes on sale for $6 in Canada, which is about the least expensive foundation you can buy that still works. Even if you don't use it for daily wear, it's worth it to pick up when you go on a trip just in case your luggage gets lost or damaged, or you buy too much stuff on your holiday and want to abandon something out of your suitcase to make room!
