Review Overview

The original LashBlast Mascara (in the bright orange tube) has been a runaway success for Cover Girl, so it’s not surprising they keep launching more mascaras associated with it. This lengthening option is another winner. This mascara works exactly as claimed, allowing you to build impressively long, perfectly separated lashes. Thickness is minor, but without question this makes lashes really long, and without clumps or flaking. Removal is easy with a good water-soluble cleanser and lashes stay soft and fringed, not brittle or flake-prone.

Claims

Our Elasta-Nylon™ formula flexes without flaking, giving you extreme, notice-me lashes all day long. Our longest brush ever gives you an 80% longer lash look.

Ingredients
Brand Overview

CoverGirl At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive and widely available; a hugely improved selection of foundations, several with reliable sunscreen; good concealers; enviable pressed powders; some fantastic Lash Blast mascaras; mostly great eyelining options; a vast selection of lip color options, from the long-wearing Outlast to sheer lip glosses to the wholly impressive Lip Perfection lipstick; several great options in the Queen Collection.

Weaknesses: The older foundations are seriously lacking; the newer Advanced Radiance foundation has great texture but disappointing SPF rating; powder blush and eyeshadows; terrible makeup brushes; all of the "Clean" products contain irritating ingredients.

Since 1961, CoverGirl has been slowly building a portfolio of cosmetics that today is about as all-encompassing as a makeup line can be. Originating from the same "medicated" ingredients found in Noxzema Skin Cream (which was never medicated in the least, but seriously irritating for skin), the debut products are still available, albeit with slight modifications. The good news is that for the past several years CoverGirl has consistently updated their line with some very impressive products, especially their foundations, concealers, and vastly improved pressed powders. They also offer some excellent eye and lip pencils, lipsticks and lip gloss, and one of the all-time best long-wearing lip paints, Outlast.

What's puzzling is that although many of CoverGirl's latest products are progressive, they tend to hang on to the lackluster-to-poor options, including abysmal powder blush and eyeshadows and their long-standing, very irritating Clean Makeup. These items may be part of CoverGirl's humble beginnings, but you certainly don't see parent company Proctor & Gamble adding eucalyptus oil and menthol to their Olay products or to products of any of the other cosmetics companies they own. If those ingredients were so important, why not use them everywhere? Needless to say, the great products outnumber the disappointments, and the prices make it easy for those on a budget to be beautiful and enjoy some state-of-the-art products, provided they shop wisely.

CoverGirl's Web site is extremely easy to navigate, and presents a wealth of product information, along with practical (if somewhat cutesy) tips and tricks for successful makeup application and for finding the shades that work best for you. CoverGirl's consumer relations department is consistently helpful if you have any questions or concerns. For example, if one of your favorite items was discontinued, you might want to know what replaced it, and they will let you know. Such service and customer concern is yet another powerful reason to believe CoverGirl really has its (class) act together.

Long wearing, but tube quickly dries out

I have oily skin so have trouble finding a mascara that wears well all day and doesn't smear. This mascara scores well in that respect. However, I prefer more volume than this mascara provides and like others here, I find the contents dry out after just a few weeks so a tube will only last about a month.

Best ever!

I think I have tried all the lengthening mascaras. This is the best. If I ever have trouble with clumps, which is not often, I just wipe the wand with a tissue. Not much thickening, but I don't want that anyway. Just long lashes. Perfect!

Icky stuff

I tried this because Lash Exact is gone and it has the plastic bristled brush. The big brush makes it difficult to really reach the lash roots for full coverage. The product itself is getting quite clumpy in a rather short amount of time since I've opened it. It doesn't lengthen anywhere near what my old Lash Exact could do. By day's end, little mascara flakes line my glasses. The ancient brush and cake method ('68 Max Factor) lasted longer even if you had to add your own water. :(

Clumpy!

The product is great for the first couple of uses, but within two weeks the only thing the mascara does is clump, and clump, and clump....that's actually why I am on the site reviewing mascara's today, because I have had it with this one!

Don't bother

I applied 2-3 coats and the only thing that registered was good definition and zero length. I can only recommend this to those who are new to using makeup and who want a literal "no mascara" mascara look. Otherwise, it was a terrible waste of money even for a drugstore mascara.

Does exactly what it says...

Easy to apply, luv the brush. 2Bfair, I already have very long lashes so I dont use it to lengthen. More to darken & define my VERY blond lashes, which will look fake with the slightest clump or flake and it's quite obvious on me if the mascara is the least bit sticky. LBL keeps me from having to spend an extra 20 minutes with a lash comb.I have sensitive eyes and these mascaras dont bother them & come off fairly easy -The non water proof formulas.

Good, but dries out quickly

I've had several tubes of this particular mascara, and I LOVE it for the first two weeks of use. Let me preface this by saying that I don't "pump" the wand, I only use the product once a day, and I always close the product tightly after use; however after about two weeks, it gets dry and does not spread well on the lashes, and clumps become more prevalent. I deal with it because it's inexpensive, good while it lasts, and doesn't smudge.
