Review Overview

LashBlast Volume is among CoverGirl's best (and most popular) mascaras, for good reason: Its performance is truly impressive! LashBlast Volume's slightly over-sized, rubber-bristled brush may seem imposing at first, but it allows you to be surprisingly nimble when defining, lengthening, and thickening your lashes.

You’re left with a full, dramatic, clump-free sweep of softly fringed, separated yet "fattened" lashes that look gorgeous and last all day. The formula doesn't flake or smear (unless you REALLY overdo it) and is easily removed with a water-soluble cleanser.

Claims

Get a blast of lush, volumized lashes! LashBlast's patented volume-boosting formula and patent-pending brush are designed to max out each and every lash, leaving you with the ultimate big-lash look.

Brand Overview

CoverGirl At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive and widely available; a hugely improved selection of foundations, several with reliable sunscreen; good concealers; enviable pressed powders; some fantastic Lash Blast mascaras; mostly great eyelining options; a vast selection of lip color options, from the long-wearing Outlast to sheer lip glosses to the wholly impressive Lip Perfection lipstick; several great options in the Queen Collection.

Weaknesses: The older foundations are seriously lacking; the newer Advanced Radiance foundation has great texture but disappointing SPF rating; powder blush and eyeshadows; terrible makeup brushes; all of the "Clean" products contain irritating ingredients.

Since 1961, CoverGirl has been slowly building a portfolio of cosmetics that today is about as all-encompassing as a makeup line can be. Originating from the same "medicated" ingredients found in Noxzema Skin Cream (which was never medicated in the least, but seriously irritating for skin), the debut products are still available, albeit with slight modifications. The good news is that for the past several years CoverGirl has consistently updated their line with some very impressive products, especially their foundations, concealers, and vastly improved pressed powders. They also offer some excellent eye and lip pencils, lipsticks and lip gloss, and one of the all-time best long-wearing lip paints, Outlast.

What's puzzling is that although many of CoverGirl's latest products are progressive, they tend to hang on to the lackluster-to-poor options, including abysmal powder blush and eyeshadows and their long-standing, very irritating Clean Makeup. These items may be part of CoverGirl's humble beginnings, but you certainly don't see parent company Proctor & Gamble adding eucalyptus oil and menthol to their Olay products or to products of any of the other cosmetics companies they own. If those ingredients were so important, why not use them everywhere? Needless to say, the great products outnumber the disappointments, and the prices make it easy for those on a budget to be beautiful and enjoy some state-of-the-art products, provided they shop wisely.

CoverGirl's Web site is extremely easy to navigate, and presents a wealth of product information, along with practical (if somewhat cutesy) tips and tricks for successful makeup application and for finding the shades that work best for you. CoverGirl's consumer relations department is consistently helpful if you have any questions or concerns. For example, if one of your favorite items was discontinued, you might want to know what replaced it, and they will let you know. Such service and customer concern is yet another powerful reason to believe CoverGirl really has its (class) act together.

Fantastic!

It separates, defines and volumizes, no flaking or clumps. I usually apply 2 coats to my lashes, this mascara gives you nice, natural looking lashes all day.

Gave me raccoon eyes

This mascara initially goes on easy and makes my lashes look great, but smears like crazy after just a few hours so does not wear well at all.

Starts out well....

I love this mascara... when I first open it. For a short time there are no clumps, and I get beautiful, long and full lashes. However, after a couple weeks this mascara is no longer clump-free. And it just gets worse and worse as time goes by. So since it doesn't last so long, the value isn't all that great and I can't give it a big thumbs up. I'm now looking for something else.

The Best!

Applies evenly, doesn't flake or smear. I use one coat for day and two at the most for evening. It's easily removed and completely removed with my usual face cleanser. It also lasts quite a while in the tube without thickening or drying out. The applicator is a good size and is sturdy.

Keep going back

Overall, this is pretty good mascara. The wand is great and really gets all my lashes. I like the volume and length I get. The color and wear lasts all day however I do get flaking. I haven't found anything better so I continue to go back to this one...

LOVE!

I love the results! Does not smear, flake, or make my eyes water. This has to be applied carefully w/a combing between coats. Once dry it wears like iron! It has lasted through a 24 hr. shift at the hospital. If I apply 2-3 coats I'm often asked if I'm wearing false eyelashes/ have lash extensions. I go btwn. this and the Dior show Iconic for my go to mascaras. Same look but a 20.00 price diff.

My "Go To" Mascare

I am a mascara junkie and have tried pretty well all of the mascaras but this is the one I always go back to. It gives beautiful separation and decent volume. I need to apply lots of coats to get the volume I like, tho. It lasts all day with no smudging or flaking. To give it a stronger colour boost, I top it with a coat of Cover Girl's NatureLuxe. NatureLux also has a smaller brush that helps me give the final touchs on my lash tips and those in hard to reach places. That mascara on it's own is also fabulous!
