Review Overview

Outlast All-Day Lipcolor features a liquid color you apply to lips (make sure they’re clean, dry, and free of any flakes), let set for a moment or two, then apply a glossy top coat for comfortable wear and shine. Outlast wears extraordinarily well. As long as you can commit to regularly applying the moisturizing top coat, you’ll be rewarded with feel-good color that lasts through most meals (oily salad dressings or fried foods are this lip color’s undoing), and it doesn’t come off on cups or people (so go ahead and kiss the ones you love freely).

Claims

America's #1 long-wear lip color!* Our advanced formula with resilient, brilliant coverage, color, and shine gives you up to 16 hours of color that stays true, in just 2 easy, breezy steps. Outlast has a moisturizing topcoat that helps lock in shine – no feathering, no bleeding.

Ingredients
Brand Overview

CoverGirl At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive and widely available; a hugely improved selection of foundations, several with reliable sunscreen; good concealers; enviable pressed powders; some fantastic Lash Blast mascaras; mostly great eyelining options; a vast selection of lip color options, from the long-wearing Outlast to sheer lip glosses to the wholly impressive Lip Perfection lipstick; several great options in the Queen Collection.

Weaknesses: The older foundations are seriously lacking; the newer Advanced Radiance foundation has great texture but disappointing SPF rating; powder blush and eyeshadows; terrible makeup brushes; all of the "Clean" products contain irritating ingredients.

Since 1961, CoverGirl has been slowly building a portfolio of cosmetics that today is about as all-encompassing as a makeup line can be. Originating from the same "medicated" ingredients found in Noxzema Skin Cream (which was never medicated in the least, but seriously irritating for skin), the debut products are still available, albeit with slight modifications. The good news is that for the past several years CoverGirl has consistently updated their line with some very impressive products, especially their foundations, concealers, and vastly improved pressed powders. They also offer some excellent eye and lip pencils, lipsticks and lip gloss, and one of the all-time best long-wearing lip paints, Outlast.

What's puzzling is that although many of CoverGirl's latest products are progressive, they tend to hang on to the lackluster-to-poor options, including abysmal powder blush and eyeshadows and their long-standing, very irritating Clean Makeup. These items may be part of CoverGirl's humble beginnings, but you certainly don't see parent company Proctor & Gamble adding eucalyptus oil and menthol to their Olay products or to products of any of the other cosmetics companies they own. If those ingredients were so important, why not use them everywhere? Needless to say, the great products outnumber the disappointments, and the prices make it easy for those on a budget to be beautiful and enjoy some state-of-the-art products, provided they shop wisely.

CoverGirl's Web site is extremely easy to navigate, and presents a wealth of product information, along with practical (if somewhat cutesy) tips and tricks for successful makeup application and for finding the shades that work best for you. CoverGirl's consumer relations department is consistently helpful if you have any questions or concerns. For example, if one of your favorite items was discontinued, you might want to know what replaced it, and they will let you know. Such service and customer concern is yet another powerful reason to believe CoverGirl really has its (class) act together.

Disappointed

I was very disappointed in this lipstick. Perhaps it is just me, but it wears off on me on the lower and upper lips and leaves a "liner" effect. This happens even when I use the top coat regularly and clean my lips thoroughly before applying.

Best long lasting lipstick

I have been using Cover Girl Outlast for many years. Every so often I have tried other long lasting lipsticks, even very expensive ones, and they never work as well as Outlast. The price is reasonable for this product and most times I can find it on sale for about $7.50. It never comes off on cups or when eating. I do need to use a lip pencil with Outlast but I have always used one with all lipsticks. By the end of the day my lipstick is still on and I very seldom have to touch it up.

Worst long-wearing lipstick I've tried yet

The color coat chips and cracks leaving my lips looking like alligator lips. It's not a pretty sight. In addition, it feels gritty on the lips, which I didn't enjoy. On the plus side, it is very tenacious and lasted until I took it off with a silicone makeup remover. I don't recommend this at all. Maybelline's SuperStay 24 Color is light years better than this product, it never cracks or feels gritty and the colors are much better.

Great for people who hate lipstick

I generally hate lipstick & I love this long wearing lip color. I am fair skinned & I love # 621 "Natural Blush". No scent or tacky texture. I can wear this with any color eye shadow as a neutral. And this stays on for hours unless you eat salad dressing or greasy foods. This type of lip color is a bit drying in the winter even w/top coat so I use it in the summer. And Paula's Best pick L' Oreal Color Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain in the drying winter months.

product packaging

I've been using this for a long time because of the product itself, however have become extremely disillusioned because of the applicator and product packaging. There is so much of the product that's unobtainable and I feel for the price, you're only getting half of the product. The applicator, as is, cannot reach all of the liquid. If anyone can tell me how to do so, I'd be grateful. Not user friendly, not customer conscious, but know people will purchase it anyway. Check it out for yourself.

Ditto to first reviewer's comments

I've tried all the long-last lipcolors (even by Chanel & MAC) & they don't hold a candle to Outlast. I just wish Cover Girl didn't test on animals:(

I don't wear regular lipstick anymore.

I have been wearing long wearing lip color exclusively since Max Factor's Lipfinity. The application is different from any other lip product. Its like a paint. You use a light amount and apply in one layer. Don't blot or touch your lips together for a minute or two then use the clear non sticky topcoat. The result is a very long wearing lip color that doesn't come off when eating, drinking, kissing , etc. It does wear out eventually in the center of my lips but that's about six hours later. It also has helped my lips from getting dried out. I keep an extra topcoat in my handbag for a touch up. I have used many other brands and CG Outlast has the best formula paired with the best color selection.
