Dove's DermaSeries Ultra Caring Gentle Body Cleanser is their richest (and most expensive) body wash yet, and also happens to be a great option for people suffering with dry to very dry skin—which is the skin type DermaSeries is said to treat.
This creamy formula helps cushion skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. The emollient properties make it a bit more difficult to rinse than many standard body washes, but those moisturizing ingredients are what make this so effective for dry skin. If you have problems with breakouts from the neck down, this might not be the ideal product for you, but there's no question it is much better than any type of anti-acne soap or bar cleanser we've reviewed, and we've reviewed dozens!
In addition to this cleanser's moisturizing properties, it stands out because of what it does not include: harsh soap ingredients and fragrance. The absence of both makes this an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin as well as for those with very dry skin.
One more comment: Price- and size-wise, you may be wondering if this body wash is worth it when compared to Dove's body wash for sensitive skin, which comes in a larger container. The DermaSeries formula has a richer, thicker formula that is more moisturizing and better suited for very dry skin, but both formulas are suitable for sensitive skin. Which one to choose? If you're happy with the results from Dove's less expensive option, stick with that. If not, or if your skin is uncomfortably dry, try the DermaSeries option.
- Contains a good blend of emollients to cushion dry skin.
- Does not include harsh soap ingredients that can be drying.
- Fragrance-free, which makes this a good option for sensitive skin.
- The emollient ingredients make this a less-than-ideal option if you have body breakouts.

From its beginnings in the 1940s with its still-available original Beauty Bar, Dove has expanded and the curiously curtailed its selection of skin-care products to the point where their facial care offerings are back to nothing more than bar cleansers.
Although their Beauty Bars have their share of problems (such as containing drying ingredients and not rinsing well), they're better than traditional bar soap. However, if you can get past your propensity for bar cleansers, neighboring lines at the drugstore offer better, gentler, water soluble cleansers (the kind Dove has offered in the past).
Where Dove holds sway at the drugstore is with its vast selection of body washes. Although the formulas often differ only by fragrance, for the most part they are excellent, affordable options, especially for normal to dry skin. The body washes in their men's line aren't quite as elegant as those in the main line, and guys should know their skin will do just fine with Dove's regular body washes.
Note: All Dove products contain fragrance unless otherwise noted.
