Review Overview

Epiduo Gel is a topical prescription product for acne. It combines benzoyl peroxide, the gold standard for killing acne-causing bacteria, with the retinoid adapalene (of Differin fame). The combination delivers a potent anti-acne punch to blemishes: The benzoyl peroxide helps eliminate the bacteria that cause acne while the adapalene improves the shape of the pore lining and changes (for the better) how new skin cells are formed. Unlike other retinoids, adapalene remains stable when mixed with benzoyl peroxide (or when applied at the same time), so if you’re using Differin you can apply an over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide product at the same time and still get the benefits of both.

Epiduo is worth considering if your acne hasn’t responded to treatment using conventional over-the-counter options, such as benzoyl peroxide and leave-on products with salicylic acid. Those who have trouble with multi-step routines will appreciate the convenience of Epiduo’s two benefits in one. Its lightweight, cream-gel formula is suitable for all skin types, including very oily skin.

Note: The price noted above for this prescription-only gel is the price if you don’t have insurance. Prescription products for acne are covered by many health insurance plans, so you should check with your insurance company whether or not this is covered and how much your co-pay will be. However, you also can consider getting a prescription just for Differen and then using an over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide product; you’ll be getting the same combination for a lot less money.

Claims

Epiduo Gel is the only topical acne treatment that combines adapalene and benzoyl peroxide to help clear breakouts you have now and prevent future pimples from forming. The duo’s been proven to work better together than they do alone, so having them in a single treatment could mean fewer co-pays, more convenience and most of all, better results.

Excellent!

I stand by epiduo. I've suffered with acne most of my life and have tried so many prescription topical and oral treatments, but this product has given me the best, most effective results. It really makes a difference just overnight. Totally worth the price.
