Among Lauder's re-launched Time Zone moisturizers (now known as "Advanced"), this is the only one not packaged in a jar. That means the light- and air-sensitive ingredients it contains won't begin to break down as soon as you open it, which is a very good thing.

While Lauder got the packaging right, the question is did they get the formula right? Can you get younger-looking skin in just five days by applying this product to your skin? The answer is yes, but it's not any better than any other well-formulated anti-aging moisturizer, which is precisely what this is. How well this works depends on many factors, primarily your expectations (keep them realistic; this won't make anyone look years younger) and the other skin-care products you use because no single anti-aging product can do it all. Although it would be great if anti-aging skin care was as simple as one product, that's simply not the case.

The formula is best for normal to oily or combination skin and it shouldn't be a problem for those struggling with breakouts. Like most Lauder moisturizers, it contains a long list of antioxidants and some novel water-binding agents, plus a decent mix of skin-repairing and cell-communicating ingredients, which makes it great for your skin.

Where this goes off base a bit is with fragrant plant extracts, including rosemary and, especially, tangerine—all citrus poses a risk of irritation. The formula also contains fragrance, which can compound the potential irritation from the fragrant plants. All told, the tangerine peel extract is why this missed our top rating.

One more comment: Lauder's claim that this moisturizer can boost skin's production of hyaluronic acid by 182% in 3 days is based only on in vitro testing (that is, in a petri dish), not testing on intact, healthy skin.

Pros:
  • Lightweight, silky lotion texture won't make skin look or feel greasy.
  • Contains a very good mix of anti-aging ingredients, including plenty of antioxidants.
  • Hydrating ingredients smooth skin and help plump wrinkles (just like any other moisturizer with those types of ingredients).
Cons:
  • Expensive.
  • Contains a potentially irritating amount of fragrant tangerine peel extract.

Brand Overview

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
