Lauder revamped their core cleansers and toners, and this one for dry skin is said to do double-duty as a facial mask. Although you can use this creamy cleanser as a mask, the formula isn't as good as any of the moisturizing masks we recommend, so don't pay extra for this cleanser thinking that you're getting a state-of-the-art facial mask, too. In truth, most creamy cleansers could also be used as a 3-minute moisture mask, which is how Lauder advises this product be used.

As a cleanser, this works swiftly to remove all types of makeup. It contains some good soothing agents but the inclusion of fragrance somewhat negates their benefit. You may find this cleanser tricky to rinse and want to have a washcloth handy. The second ingredient isn't water-soluble but the third ingredient (isohexadecane) is a solvent that helps make a thick cleanser like this easier to wash off.

Pros:
  • Removes makeup easily.
  • Doesn't leave skin tight or dry.
  • Moisturizes as it cleanses and can be used as a moisturizing mask.
Cons:
  • Borderline pricey, though a little goes a long way.
  • Inclusion of fragrance potentially negates the soothing ingredients.

Brand Overview

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
