Although this may seem pricey, the cost isn't as hard to take since you’re getting five shade of powder eyeshadow in one sleek compact—and a handful of the sets are coordinated for a beautiful eye design. The enclosed sponge-tip applicators can be tossed because they’re too small and you’ll get much better results from eyeshadow brushes.

Unlike Lauder’s Pure Color single and duo eyeshadows, those in the Palette have a softer color deposit that must be layered for good intensity (though the darker shades go on quite dark even when applied sheer). The texture is smooth and the formula blends well, which is what you want when you’re applying several shade of eyeshadow.

Each Palette has at least one matte-finish shade and almost all of them have a color that’s dark enough to use for eyelining. Using each shade in these palettes results in a shiny finish that isn’t’ the best for wrinkled or sagging skin around the eyes.

Pros:
  • Smooth texture and soft color deposit gives you more control over the intensity during application.
  • Each shade blends well and the shine tends to stay in place.
  • Almost every palette is workable and offers a dark shade to use as powder eyeliner.
Cons:
  • Included sponge-tip applicators are no match for great eyeshadow brushes.
  • None of the palettes provide a true matte finish, which means they’ll emphasize wrinkles or sagging skin around the eyes.

More Info:

Matte eye shadows can work magic that shimmer shadows can’t. Eye shadows with frost, shimmer or flecks of sparkles will always accentuate wrinkled lids and crepey skin because they catch the light, which instantly highlights imperfections. But matte shadows do not reflect light, so they will help camouflage wrinkled lids and fine lines that shimmer shadows exaggerate. Use shimmer shadow to subtly accent your brow bone or to add dimension to dramatic evening looks.

Brand Overview

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
