Lauder claims 100% of women got an instant moisture boost from this product, which sounds impressive but would apply to any well formulated moisturizing mask applied to clean, dry skin. It's not difficult to give skin a moisture boost and get 100% of women to agree to this statement, even though their skin may not feel 100% better. A boost can be helpful, but for some it may not be enough. In essence, this mask isn't as amazing as it's made out to be, but it's still a good formula that missed our top rating due to the lingering fragrance it contains.

Otherwise, this continues Lauder's winning streak of formulating excellent masks for those with normal to dry skin. The global angle is strange, because the ingredients in this mask (or similar ingredients) appear in many other products that aren't different from what we like to see (and you should expect to find) in any good moisturizing mask, no matter where you live or what your ethnic background is.

What of Lauder's claim that this is "infused with IntuiGen Technology"? What they mean is that this mask can supposedly hone in on a person's unique signs of aging and adapt itself (and on a global scale no less; that's a lot of faces!) to fight the signs of aging each of us may be experiencing—which tends to be the same for most, so this sounds more special than it really is.

The concept sounds intriguing and special, but really, how would this even work? Is this mask supposed to know who's less wrinkled, who has more signs of sagging, duller skin, or fewer brown spots? And then how would it respond—by holding back anti-aging ingredients in one area and somehow reshuffling them to another area that needs them more? It's not possible.

Despite the fancy claims, this remains a very good mask to consider, though it's worth noting the fragrance poses a risk of irritation for those with sensitive skin, and also makes this mask iffy to apply near the eyes.

Pros:
  • Instantly brightens and smoothes skin for a radiant look.
  • Contains a very good mix of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients.
  • High amount of shea butter makes good on the "intensely moisturizing" claim.
Cons:
  • The fragrance poses a risk of irritation, especially for extra-sensitive skin.
  • Directions to remove this mask with tissues are outdated; this can be left on skin or rinsed with water and/or a damp washcloth.

Brand Overview

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
