Facial masks of all types are enjoying a resurgence of sorts, so we weren't surprised to see Estee Lauder join the fray with their Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask. The good news? With a couple of minor exceptions, this fragrance free, beautifully formulated, easy-to-use, 2-part hydrating mask leaves all skin types skin glowing (yes, really!) with hydration—and the results can be felt the next morning, too!
Slipped inside a thin cardboard box about the size of a small dinner plate are four individually-wrapped masks, each with two pieces: One for the bottom half of the face, and one for the top. Each piece is saturated in an "approximation" of Lauder's popular Advanced Night Repair serum.
We wrote "approximation" because although the PowerFoil mask and Advanced Night Repair serum share many of the same ingredients, each is different enough to stand on its own—with the Mask being better able to hydrate and leave skin feeling "plumped" with moisture.
You're directed to apply each piece to the designated area, pressing to help it adhere to skin, then leave on for 10 minutes. The foil side faces outward, not against the skin, with the idea being that this thin layer of flexible metal helps keep the ingredients from evaporating too soon, thus giving them more time to penetrate skin and work their magic.
Here's what happens: As the mask's solution absorbs, the foil interacts with your body heat, creating a gradual warm sensation that's vaguely spa-like. Most will find the sensation pleasant, but within the 10-minute time frame the mask pieces stay on skin, they can become weightier and feel a bit stifling. We don't see much benefit to the foil concept, but it does add a different twist to the concept of a standard cloth sheet mask! (Not to mention it definitely ups your "mask selfie" game.)
Aside from alleged benefits and visual picture the foil element brings, the mask solution is chockfull of hydrating ingredients along with an intriguing mix of plant-based antioxidants and lesser but still helpful amounts of skin-repairing ingredients like sodium hyaluronate. It's expensive for what amounts to only four treatments; Lauder advises once-weekly usage, so you'd be buying more masks each month, which adds up fast.
For those looking for a fun twist on sheet masks and a formula that doesn't disappoint, Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask is right up your alley. It's easy to use, easy to remove (plus it stays on during the usage time so you can walk around with it on) and delivers smoother, softer, glowingly hydrated skin in 10 minutes—plus these results last until the next morning, which is more than we can say for many other moisturizing masks! We wish this wasn't so pricey and the foil element isn't quite as amazing as it might seem, but there's no denying this is a mask that delivers visible results!
Note: This contains the fragrant plant extract Limonium vulgare; however, its addition does not impart any detectable fragrance, so we suspect the non-fragrant portions of this plant were used.
