This is the eye cream partner to Lauder’s Re Nutriv Ultimate Lift Age Correcting Creme. Not surprisingly, the formulas have no significant differences, and the minor differences have nothing to do with the skin around your eyes. So, despite having merit for dry skin, this is an eye cream you can safely ignore—just use its overpriced facial counterpart instead. (That assumes you fell for Lauder’s marketing hype and bought that product first.)

We know it's hard to believe, but most eye creams aren't necessary. That's either because they are poorly formulated, contain nothing special for the eye area, or come in packaging that won't keep key ingredients stable. Just because the product is labeled as an eye cream doesn't mean it's good for your eye area; in fact, many can actually make matters worse. There is much you can do to improve signs of aging around your eyes. Any product loaded with antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, skin-lightening ingredients, anti-inflammatory ingredients, and effective emollients will work wonders and those ingredients don't have to come from a product labeled as an eye cream.

You would be shocked how many eye creams lack even the most basic ingredients to help skin. For example, most eye creams don't contain sunscreen. During the day that is a serious problem because it leaves the skin around your eyes vulnerable to sun damage and this absolutely will make dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles worse! Whatever product you put around your eye area, regardless of what it is labeled, must be well formulated and appropriate for the skin type around your eyes! That may mean you need an eye cream, but you may also do just as well applying your regular facial moisturizer around your eyes.

Still curious about this eye cream? Although it’s not worth your time (and definitely not worth its price), it does contain several beneficial ingredients that can improve signs of aging anywhere on the face. None of the ingredients are specific to the eye area, and this cannot offer anything more than cosmetic help for dark circles. It does have some shine, which reflects light from the shadowed areas, but shine itself isn’t skin care. Those with puffy eyes won’t see any relief from this product, either. If anything, this eye cream’s thick, heavy texture will make puffiness worse because it adds weight to already-stretched skin.

The beneficial ingredients mentioned above are present and look great on the label, but their ability to help your skin look younger is eventually negated due to the jar packaging. All plant extracts, vitamins, antioxidants, and other state-of-the-art ingredients break down in the presence of air, so once a jar is opened and lets the air in, these important ingredients begin to deteriorate. Jars also are unsanitary because you’re dipping your fingers into them with each use, adding bacteria, which further deteriorate the beneficial ingredients.

In the end, the needlessly high price, the poor packaging, and the formula, which is similar to that of the facial moisturizer, combine to make this an eye cream that simply isn’t worth considering.

Brand Overview

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
