Re-Nutriv Ultimate Lifting Creme Makeup SPF 15 is one of Lauder’s most expensive foundations, and your first question may be, “Is it worth the money?” Although this creamy foundation has a lot going for it, the answer is “no.” It has a titanium dioxide–based sunscreen, which is great for protecting skin, but so do countless other foundations that cost significantly less. Lauder goes on and on about the skin-care technology behind this foundation, but it won’t lift skin in the least. The base formula isn’t nearly as exciting as many of their well-formulated moisturizers, plus the jar packaging won’t keep the antioxidants in here stable. Texture-wise, this is extra rich, almost to the point of being greasy. It slides over skin and is easy to blend, but doesn’t ever set, so you’re left with a creamy finish that must be set with powder. You’ll get medium coverage without much effort, and it’s hard to get less than that, even if you apply a sheer layer (but don’t do that because you’ll cheat your skin of the sun protection it needs). Most of the shades are very good. Based on the emollience of this foundation, we recommend it only for someone with dry to very dry skin, assuming you’re willing to pay the exorbitant price.

Note: This foundation’s rating is due to its overall performance rather than its SPF rating. Due to concerns about people not applying sunscreen liberally enough to get the amount of SPF protection stated on the label, it is often recommended to look for SPFs with ratings higher than 15. If you plan to use foundation as your sole source of facial sun protection, consider using one rated SPF 20 or greater. If the foundation with sunscreen you choose is rated less than an SPF 20, we strongly advise applying it over a daytime moisturizer rated SPF 15 or greater and following it with a pressed powder rated SPF 15 or greater. That way, you’re ensuring sufficient broad-spectrum protection which is essential for having and maintaining healthy, younger-looking skin at any age.

Brand Overview

Estee Lauder At-A-Glance

The history of Estee Lauder goes back to 1946, when the woman who created the brand (and for whom it is named) began selling creams and lotions made by her chemist uncle. From its humble beginnings, Estee Lauder has grown to become a multibillion-dollar company whose products are sold all over the world and advertised in just about every fashion and women's lifestyle magazine available.

The biggest compliment we can pay to the venerable Estee Lauder line is that their moisturizers and serums can largely be described as state-of-the-art. Though fragrance is often intrusive, but when it comes to formulary excellence culminating in products that give skin what it needs to function optimally, they are tough to beat.

When it comes to makeup, by and large the brand also exceeds expectations. Though there are some under-performing products (you can read more about them in our individual reviews), Lauder has a number of excellent options, most notably its lip colors.
