Review Overview

This is a very good, inexpensive, and fragrance-free lip balm with sunscreen! Kudos to Eucerin for providing broad-spectrum sun protection that includes stabilized avobenzone for critical UVA (think anti-aging) screening. The Vaseline (petrolatum)-based formula feels emollient and leaves a soft glossy finish. This is too greasy to apply lipstick over (at least if you expect the lipstick to last) but is fine on its own or topped with a light layer or lip gloss. Don’t worry about the lip gloss negating the sunscreen; although it will be affected a bit, as long as you gently dab the gloss on you won’t be losing much sun protection.

This lip balm with sunscreen would’ve earned a BEST product rating had the formula included more than a token amount of vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate) for an antioxidant boost. On balance, though, it’s worth strong consideration to keep lips protected from sun damage.

Temporarily protects and heals relieve chapped or cracked lips.  Helps protect lips from the drying effects of wind and cold weather.  Helps prevent sunburn.  If used as directed with other sun protection measures (see Directions), decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun.

Brand Overview

Eucerin At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive and widely distributed; fragrance-free cleansers; some good body washes and body moisturizers; widely available.

Weaknesses: Anti-redness products that added questionable ingredients instead of increasing the anti-inflammatory agents; nothing for acne-prone skin; jar packaging; some standard body lotions that are OK for dry skin but "OK" isn't good enough.

This drugstore staple line claims to be dermatologist-preferred skin care, but any dermatologist who recommends this line in its entirety without reservation needs a crash course in what skin really needs to be protected and look its best.

There are some basic products that a dermatologist would want to consider, but Eucerin falls short in products to address acne. Further, their latest facial skincare products aren't keeping pace with what industry frontrunners are doing in an effort to create elegant, effective products. For example, serums from Olay, Neutrogena, and Aveeno have much more interesting formulations, while moisturizers from many other drugstore lines (including Nivea, which is owned by Eucerin parent company Beiersdorf) include a greater complement of antioxidants and ingredients that mimic the structure and function of healthy skin. Eucerin is making some strides here, though, which is an encouraging sign.

A major pro for this line is that all of the products are fragrance-free. Although that's helpful for all skin types, it certainly isn't compelling enough for dermatologists to green-light this line without cautions about which products to avoid.

I might buy it again

I have been using "Aquaphor Lip Repair + Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30" for a couple of days now, and what I like about it is that it has SPF 30 and leaves my lips moist and smooth. I also like that it has no fragrance and almost no flavor. I will buy the version without SPF ("Aquaphor Lip Repair") for nighttime use but might exchange this version for one that has more antioxidants and titanium dioxide and zinc oxide as active ingredients.

My favorite lip balm

This is my favorite lip balm. It has proper sunscreen and isn't waxy like most stick balms. It applies evenly, absorbs readily, and moisturizes my lips for hours. (I use the non-sunscreen version at night.) I also love that it has no flavor or fragrance. Most lip balms smell/taste too strong or weird, but not this one. True, my lipstick may not last as long with it, but I need to reapply anyway after eating, drinking so that's a non-issue for me. My husband loves it too.

Horrible taste

I use the regular one during the night and love it. I was so happy when Aquaphor came up with the sunscreen version but the taste is horrible. It feels like you have sunscreen in your mouth. I try to be careful to avoid the taste, but is impossible because it's so rich. I can't use it.

Not to pleasant!

Tried a sample of this today, thankfully my Dermatologist had some samples, was going to order this when ran out of my PC Lipscreen. It goes on like an oil slick and is like lip gloss, does not have a good protective balm texture, the worst part is that it tastes like synthetic sunscreen, which it includes multiple and it burned my lips.I am hoping PC's new Lipscreen will be really great, was not the biggest fan of it either, just gets weird on the lips fast as far as texture goes, please do a version of the Lip and Body Balm with sunscreen and hopefully do not include only synthetic sunscreens, its terrible on the delicate lips I have found out.
