Review Overview

Eczema is no fun, and when it's present over a larger area of the body it can drive you to frustrated distraction. Enter this very rich, soothing body cream from Eucerin! The fragrance-free formula (fragrance can be a major trigger for eczema flare-ups) contains 1% colloidal oatmeal as its active ingredient, and is loaded with replenishing, protective emollients.

The oatmeal is a wonderful anti-irritant but Eucerin didn't stop there: Eczema Relief Body Crème also contains a derivative of licorice for additional soothing benefits. Although the formula would've been even better with advanced skin-repairing ingredients (glycosaminoglycans, etc.) and perhaps some vitamin-based antioxidants, it's nevertheless among the top picks for very dry, itchy skin whether eczema is an issue or not. Overall, job well done, Eucerin!

Pros:
  • Fragrance-free, gentle formula is ideal for eczema-affected skin.
  • Excellent for itchy, sensitive skin.
  • Contains proven emollients and anti-irritants.
  • Great price!
Cons:
  • Lacks more sophisticated repairing agents and antioxidants.

Ingredients

Active Ingredients: Colloidal Oatmeal 1.0% Inactive Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Mineral Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Octyldodecanol, Cetyl Palmitate, PEG-40 Stearate, Glycyrrhiza Inflata Root Extract, Ceramide 3, 1,2-Hexanediol, Phenoxyethanol, Piroctone Olamine, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Benzyl Alcohol, Citric Acid.

Brand Overview

Eucerin At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive and widely distributed; fragrance-free cleansers; some good body washes and body moisturizers; widely available.

Weaknesses: Anti-redness products that added questionable ingredients instead of increasing the anti-inflammatory agents; nothing for acne-prone skin; jar packaging; some standard body lotions that are OK for dry skin but "OK" isn't good enough.

This drugstore staple line claims to be dermatologist-preferred skin care, but any dermatologist who recommends this line in its entirety without reservation needs a crash course in what skin really needs to be protected and look its best.

There are some basic products that a dermatologist would want to consider, but Eucerin falls short in products to address acne. Further, their latest facial skincare products aren't keeping pace with what industry frontrunners are doing in an effort to create elegant, effective products. For example, serums from Olay, Neutrogena, and Aveeno have much more interesting formulations, while moisturizers from many other drugstore lines (including Nivea, which is owned by Eucerin parent company Beiersdorf) include a greater complement of antioxidants and ingredients that mimic the structure and function of healthy skin. Eucerin is making some strides here, though, which is an encouraging sign.

A major pro for this line is that all of the products are fragrance-free. Although that's helpful for all skin types, it certainly isn't compelling enough for dermatologists to green-light this line without cautions about which products to avoid.

Great product!

I noticed results after only a day of using this product.I get extremely dry skin during the winter and what a relief this product brings - even gentle enough for my eyelids. I prefer this over Cerave. My only complaint is there is not much product in the tube and because it's so thick, it can be quite hard to squeeze out the last few ounces of product. Wish it came in a tub instead of a tube.

Love this creme

This creme works great even on the parts of skin that do not have eczema. It is very rich, creamy, and soothing. I can use it all over ( even my face) with no reactions or irritation.

Eczema Relief Body Creme

I use this for my 3 year old with eczema and for myself. It soothes his worst itchy patches in minutes. Works better than the prescribed medication given to him. Feels so rich and creamy. We love it.

Great stuff!

I've used this on myself, and my 4 year old son that has eczema. I am very impressed. It keeps my skin (and his) moisturized all day and night.

My tube of this says there are ceramics included. This is quite rich, maybe best for winter. I like it.

An answer to years of prayers...!

Rich and creamy, my hands have not been this clear in I can't remember when...whenever I get patches of irritation elsewhere, I smooth on this cream. Within 24 hours it's gone. I've tried everything, prescription products from my dermatologist...but nothing is as effective, and as gentle as this fro my chronic eczema. I pray it's never discontinued- could be why I'm starting to hoard it!

Great for the winter

I recommend this product all the time, especially during the very frigid temperatures we've had this winter. It isn't greasy at all, yet moisturizes incredibly well. My hands are soft and chap-free when in the past they would have been a mess. Thanks for the review, Paula. I wouldn't have known to try this without it!
