Review Overview

Eyliplex-2, Eye Lift + Circle Reducer is a two-part product that is all about making eyes tighter, brighter, less wrinkled, and—what a shock—look younger. Why the need for two different products for what amounts to one concept for making the undereye area look better, you ask? It’s marketing shenanigans, and has nothing to do with good skin care. The Fast Acting Day Gel is supposed to lift and tighten and the Long Lasting Night Balm is supposed to reduce dark circles and make skin firmer. Aside from the fact that these two products are in jar packaging, which won’t keep the interesting ingredients stable, the two-part product doesn’t add any special benefit, and the claims are just exaggerated to the max. If the day version had sunscreen that would be a different discussion, but that isn’t the case, and is a huge misstep. If you’re going to ask women to use two different products, then you should at least give them a reason why they should do that.

The Fast-Acting Day Gel is nicely formulated, with an impressive array of skin-identical ingredients, cell-communicating ingredients, and antioxidants. It even has a lightweight application that is fine if the eye area isn’t dry. Regrettably, the packaging sets this formula back in the Dark Ages.

The Long-Lasting Night Balm has many of the strengths of the gel, only in a far more emollient base. But from a formulary perspective, there is no reason to use this at night rather than during the day. Actually, if you have dry skin around your eyes this would work far better than the Gel version anyway. Regardless, the entire discussion is for naught because the packaging is such an utter disappointment.

Claims

Breakthrough, 24-hour system with two innovative formulas from the scientists at Good Skin Labs. The day treatment makes eye area skin feel tighter, look more lifted and radiant for younger looking eyes. The night treatment helps remedy visible dark circles, firms and reduces the appearance of eye area wrinkles.

Brand Overview

GoodSkin Labs At-A-Glance

Strengths: Most of the serums and treatment products (including the wrinkle fillers) are very good; relatively inexpensive given the anti-aging ingredients used; some of the products are fragrance-free.

Weaknesses: Falls short in terms of not offering any sun protection products; no longer a comprehensive line.

GoodSkin Labs is owned by Estee Lauder and sold exclusively at Kohl’s department stores. Although originally launched as a full-featured collection of skin-care products, the brand has since been whittled down to a few key players. We’re not sure why the downsizing occurred, but perhaps it’s Lauder simply decided to focus on the core products that sold best. Whatever the reason, what remains from GoodSkin is a mixed bag—but there are some very good products you may want to consider. Because this is Lauder-owned line, you’ll find several products are similar to others from Laude brands, including Clinique. The price point of GoodSkin Labs is in line with Clinique, though with Clinique you have a lot more choices and can, if desired, put together an entire skin-care routine. Just to be clear, you can put together a brilliant skin-care routine with products from different brands—let go of the myth that you won’t get good results if your routine mixes and matches various brands. In some cases that may work beautifully, but more often than not it can lead to trouble because few lines offer a perfectly ideal assortment of products. What GoodSkin Labs does best is serums and anti-aging treatment products (including wrinkle fillers) and most of them are fragrance-free. Their formulas combine proven beneficial ingredients in elegant textures and packaging that helps keep light- and air-sensitive ingredients stable during use. As with most cosmetic lines, the claims are a bit over the top, but for the most part the formulas contain an impressive range of ingredients that can help your skin look and act younger. You won’t find anything here that Estee Lauder’s namesake brand isn’t also offering, but if you routinely shop at Kohl’s, there are some products that are worthy of checking out! Mild, works great

One of the few creams that doesn't cause a my skin to break out in a fine, scaly rash. I am in my forties and have used this cream for over 5 years... lots of compliments on my skin, and just starting to get wrinkles around my eyes, and no sagging yet. Only complaint is the cost, & trying to buy it cheaper on eBay is a gamble as there seems to be a counterfeit version of this cream out there. I'd love to know which product Paulaschoice would recommend as an alternative!
