Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint is a wonderful pick for those with normal to dry skin seeking a moisturizing, medium coverage foundation. A rich cream, the fragrance- free formula leaves skin with a dewy, yet natural-looking finish. (Those with combination to oily skin will likely find it too moisturizing.)
We also loved that Hourglass Cosmetics included a few "bonuses" to this already excellent formula: Broad spectrum UV protection due to its combination of mineral and non-mineral actives, as well as a boost of skin-protecting antioxidants from goji berry (Lycium barbarum fruit extract) and cotton seed.
12 shades are available, with a wide range that includes options for light to medium-deep skin tones—those with fair or very fair complexions will likely find the lightest shade isn't a fit.
We should also note that though this product is marketed as a "skin tint," don't let that mislead you into thinking this is a sheer coverage formula. As mentioned above, this provides a medium coverage upon application—it can be sheered out to a degree, but don't expect this to perform like a tinted moisturizer in terms of finish.
What of the hyaluronic acid mention in this product's name? Hourglass Cosmetics uses the salt form, sodium hyaluronate (which is more effective than hyaluronic acid when used in topical products), however there is a relatively smaller amount given its call out in the marketing. This shouldn't dissuade you from the product; it's still an excellent option, but its moisturizing benefits are owed to a variety of fatty acids, thickening agents and wax-based ingredients that are less exciting-sounding than hyaluronic acid. After all, would this seem as enticing if the name was Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate Tint? We think not!
Moisturizing foundations can be tricky—the balance of emollients and pigments can result in difficult to blend formulas (or separating on skin, never a good look). Illusion Hyaluronic Acid Skin Tint broke away from this trend with this beautiful formula. Though on the pricey side, if you haven't found a foundation that suited your dry skin, this is absolutely one to try next time you visit your local Sephora.
- Medium coverage yet retains a natural-looking appearance.
- Dewy, moisturizing formula that blends easily.
- Provides broad-spectrum UV protection.
- On the pricey side given the number of less expensive foundations.
This foundation delivers a luminous glow, while UVA/UVB SPF 15 helps protect skin from the sun. Formulated with Hourglass’ Hyaluronan Complex, Illusion®, it reduced the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, supports the tightening of sagging skin.

Hourglass Cosmetics bills itself as luxury performance makeup, and for the most part that description is apt. The luxury aspect is apparent in the brand's packaging, which evokes sophistication and glamour. As for what's inside, while not every Hourglass product is a blockbuster, it has a number of strong products in its lineup, particularly its Ambient Lighting collection of powder makeup products. There are also some standout options for lip colors, and its Veil Fluid Makeup Oil SPF 15 foundation is a blogger and Beautypedia favorite for good reason (you can find out exactly why in our individual review). Hourglass does offer a small selection of skincare, but when it comes to this brand makeup is truly where its strengths lie.
