Although this toner contains some beneficial ingredients, what could have been a knockout formula is ruined by the inclusion of irritating lavender oil and alcohol. As such, it is not recommended.
Lavender oil may smell wonderful, but when applied to skin it causes cell death and can enhance oxidative damage. Meanwhile, the alcohol causes dryness, free-radical damage, and irritation that hurts skin’s healing process while diminishing healthy collagen production. None of that is gentle or what you want if your goal is younger, healthier-looking skin (Sources: Contact Dermatitis, September 2008, pages 143–150; and Cell Proliferation, June 2004, pages 221–229). There are far better and far less expensive toners you can check out in the Best Products section.
Defy odds, expectations-and your age with this gentle, non-drying toner. The ph-balanced formula helps remove embedded dirt and oils, diminishing the appearance of pores. Soothes and hydrates so it’s perfect for use any time you want to refresh skin.
Water (Aqua), Sodium PCA, Polysorbate-20, Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) oil, Alcohol, Lecithin, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Methydibromo Glutaronitrile, Alteromonas Ferment Extract, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Pomegranate (Punica Granatum) Extract, Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis) Leaf Extract, Grape (Vitis Vinifera) Seed Extract, Pine (Pinus Sylvestris) Bark Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Sodium Hyaluronate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium EDTA, Triethanolamine, DMDM Hydantoin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.
Weaknesses: Expensive; several products contain irritating ingredients that hurt skin's healing process and ability to produce healthy collagen; jar packaging causes the antioxidants and other key ingredients to break down; over-the-top claims not supported by published research.
Hydroxatone is a mail-order company that sells various anti-wrinkle and anti-aging products, all at fairly high prices. You need to know that these products are absolutely not worth your attention, let alone your beauty dollars. It's not that they don't contain some great ingredients, but almost every formula has its share of problems that make investing in this line the wrong way to go (especially if your concern is wrinkles or discolorations).
The key ingredients Hydroxatone touts are peptides and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients are used industry-wide, so you're not getting anything special or unique with Hydroxatone. What's particularly frustrating is that the company makes a much bigger deal about their "special" ingredients then is deserved. For example, the peptides don't work like Botox, the hyaluronic acid won't replace the need for dermal fillers, and their claim that these products contain the most effective anti-wrinkle ingredients isn't supported by published research. Even the "clinical studies" Hydroxatone mentions are meaningless, especially since they weren't done double-blind and the results were not compared with other products (that, in most cases, would likely work even better).
