Like most Jergens skin-care products, this is a completely average Vaseline- and mineral oil–based moisturizer. Its only unique qualities compared to a regular body lotion are that it contains self-tanner and some collagen and elastin for window dressing, yet this ends up being almost identical to all the others in the Jergens Natural Glow line.
The twist for this version is the inclusion of collagen, elastin, and some novel plant extracts, including one that has no established benefit for skin. None of these additional ingredients can firm skin, especially not the collagen or elastin, which are just nonsense ingredients that add no special benefit for skin. They do serve as average moisture-binding agents, but neither ingredient can fuse with or shore up the collagen and elastin in your skin, which means they do not provide even a teeny amount of skin-firming benefit. Still, this product moisturizes dry skin while providing a sunless tan from dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and the slower-acting erythrulose.
Although you won’t see tighter, firmer skin after one week’s use, or even after a year, you will see soft, smooth skin imbued with a touch of color and a subtle shine from the mineral pigment mica. Considering this product’s price, that may be reason enough for you to strongly consider it.
Note: Whether you use this product daily or not depends on how dark you want to get and how you like the results. Many of you will find that you still need a regular body lotion for days when you don’t want to add more sunless color.
Second note: The amount of DHA in this product is a bit less than in Jergens Natural Glow + Firming Daily Moisturizer, Medium to Tan, which means you’ll get slightly lighter color from the Fair to Medium version.
- Emollient lotion formula moisturizes while imparting soft tan color.
- Depending on the results you get and your personal preference, you may not want to use this every day, so you’ll need another body lotion that doesn’t contain self-tanner.
- Won’t firm or tighten skin as claimed.
Jergens natural glow Firming Daily Moisturizer gradually creates fabulous natural-looking color with a subtle skin-darkening complex. In as little as 7 days of daily use you'll experience tighter, visibly firmer skin with less noticeable cellulite and improved elasticity.

Jergens has been a household name in the United States and Canada for more than a century. It fills drugstore shelves in the skin-care section with a range of products, accompanied by exceedingly low prices and relatively overblown claims.
Really, the star attraction of Jergens is their Natural Glow body lotions with built-in self-tanner. The ability to moisturize pale, dry skin while adding buildable sunless color and a touch of shine (from the mineral pigment mica) works for many skin types. To that end, Jergens offers numerous options for different skin tones, and all of them perform reliably; in the long run, however, they are just inexpensive self-tanners that contain the same ingredient for coloring skin as every other self-tanner.
Jergens also offers a wide selection of body lotions, each affordably priced and sold in generous-size containers outfitted with a pump for convenient dispensing. Regrettably, some of the body moisturizers from Jergens either have dated formulas or contain problematic ingredients research has shown cause irritation. The others are better, and definitely come close to being state-of-the-art with their range of antioxidants and plant-based emollients, but they still lack the outstanding group of ingredients that all skin types need to look and act younger.
Based on your budget, you may find some Jergens body lotions to be great choices, but watch out for some of the too-good-to-be-true claims, such as those concerning cellulite, tightening skin, and repairing all types of skin damage in one night. Those claims look good on the label, but the ingredients and the published research tells a different, far less exciting story.
