Kat Von D knocks it out of the park with Lock-It Concealer Creme! This highly pigmented creamy concealer offers nearly opaque coverage, yet has a natural-looking, velvety, semi-matte finish. The resilient formula performs beautifully on a variety of skin types, including acne-prone … and the shade range is near perfection!

Packaged in a clear tube with KVD signature artwork, Lock-It Concealer Creme's teardrop applicator is ideal for targeting imperfections. Although the tenacious texture requires swift blending over larger surface areas, the tradeoff is coverage that holds up remarkably well.

Prepare to be blown away by the shade range—at 21 colors, it's far more extensive than what most brands offer. Whether you fall on the light or deep end of the spectrum, you're likely to find a perfect match.

Lock-It Concealer Creme also comes in a "White Out" shade, which the brand suggests mixing with your foundation or concealer to customize the color, or as a base to make lipstick or shadow pop. We've yet to get our hands on that shade, so if you have, please share your experience in the Community Reviews tab!

In comparison to other concealers, Lock-It Concealer Creme is less likely to crease. The formula may eventually settle into fine lines, but we discovered that all we needed to do was buff it out with our fingertips once, and—voilà—smooth wear for the rest of the day. Impressive!

Keep in mind, however, that if you have an ultra-oily T-zone, this likely won't be as absorbent as you're hoping for in shine-prone areas (e.g., around the nose) OR that if you have severely dry skin it may not be as hydrating as you would like. If you don't fall into one of those extreme skin types, Lock-It Concealer Creme is an excellent, fragrance-free option to consider!

Pros:
  • Richly pigmented formula hides imperfections but still looks natural.
  • Extensive shade range offers beautiful options for light and deep skin tones.
  • Velvety, semi-matte finish creates smooth, long-lasting coverage.
  • Fragrance-free formula compatible with most skin types.
Cons:
  • Requires extra effort to blend over large surface areas (but we think you'll find the results are worth it).

Brand Overview

Kat Von D At-A-Glance

Celebrity makeup lines are nothing new—we’ve seen dozens of them over the years—but this one is a first in that it shocked us a bit. Kat Von D’s main claim to fame was her successful tattooing enterprise, and her role as a former reality TV show star. Now, she's a makeup entrepreneur—and a very good one.

The line launched in 2007 with only two eyeshadow palettes, cream lipstick, and eyeliner, but since has expanded by adding several new products, including remarkable lip products, blushes and more. Just like most makeup lines, this is one to shop carefully; for every great product, there are a few that could use improvement.

All Kat Von D makeup products come packaged with the line’s signature images of roses and thorns (perhaps to reinforce Von D’s love of tattoo design), which definitely makes these products stand out among a sea of blandly packaged makeup containers.

Strengths: Excellent eyeshadow palettes and trios; long-wearing cream and liquid lipstick; truly lasting powder blushes and bronzers.

Weaknesses: A few products on the pricey side (this is a minor quibble).
