Kevyn Auction’s The Creamy Glow delivers just that—soft, healthy-looking color that blends well and provides subtle-to-bold results, depending on your application methods. Its cream formula isn’t greasy, though it does deliver enough moisture to make it an ideal choice for those with combination to dry skin. Those with oily skin may find it too moisturizing, to the point that it doesn’t wear as well for them over the workday (which may emphasize large pores on the cheeks). Though on the pricey side, it ranks among the better cream blush formulas we’ve seen, and is a splurge that likely won’t disappoint.

Housed in the brands’ trademark red, plastic mirrored compact, there are six (at the time of time review) well-curated shades to choose from. Whether your preference is soft nudes, vibrant pinks or red tones, there is something here to satisfy most.  Though the colors are sheer and soft upon first application, they can be easily layered for intensity.

The texture is indeed creamy, and blending is no chore whether you using fingers, a sponge or brush. This avoided settling into lines or pores, and was sheer enough that we didn’t experience streaking over liquid or powder foundations. There is no glitter, and once The Creamy Glow dries, it sets to a satin finish.

As mentioned above, those with combination to dry skin are likely to enjoy this formula the most.  It is a comfortable cream blush to wear, neither greasy nor heavy, and maintains its color for six or seven hours before beginning to fade (just a bit). However, on oily skin, this didn’t fare as well—we found it can emphasize oily cheeks, and noticeably faded after four or five hours. On that, we can’t be too heartbroken, as cream formulas of any product are simply not a good match for oily skin.

The ability to layer or sheer the shades out makes Kevyn Auction’s The Creamy Glow an option for any skin tone—the bolder, brighter hues look especially attractive on medium to deep complexions.  The shade range, exceptional performance on most skin types, and a texture that is a pleasure to blend that earned this blush our highest recommendation.

Pros:

Blends well over foundation (liquid or powder).

Holds up well on combination to dry skin.

Offers sheer to bold, natural-looking color.

Fragrance free.

Cons:

None.

Brand Overview

Kevyn Aucoin was arguably one of the most iconic makeup artists of the 20th century. A self-trained, highly sought celebrity makeup artist and best-selling author, his work appeared regularly in countless fashion magazines, as well as his monthly column in Allure. Not surprisingly, his work has influenced countless makeup artists and YouTube beauty vloggers—whether they know it or not—and at the time of his passing in 2002, he had just launched a small range of products under the Kevyn Aucoin brand. Although Aucoin left us far too soon, at least his products serve to compliment his lasting legacy.

Today, the Kevyn Aucoin brand continues with his motto that anyone should be able to experiment with makeup and feel beautiful while doing so. The brand's range of unique products reflects the emphasis on makeup’s role in our lives as more than just utilitarian—it should be enjoyable, accessible, fun, and the outcome always rewarding. The approach is enhancing one’s self-esteem rather than using makeup to cover up what you or others might perceive as unattractive.

Thus, the products themselves are something of an experience to use—from their packaging (beautiful) to their focus on perfecting skin and mix of basic to bold color options. This line isn’t for those who think of makeup as a chore!

The price points are higher, to be sure, but there are also quite a few exceptional and unique standouts that allow this brand to nicely distinguish itself in a sea of makeup artist-fronted lines. There are some shortfalls here and there, but overall, it is a range that is well worth experimenting with should you happen upon a Kevyn Aucoin counter at your local Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus. (Note: Kevyn Aucoin is sold online at a number of beauty sites, from Sephora to Beautylish.)

For Beautypedia, we have chosen some of what we feel are Aucoin’s best products along with those that are OK, but for one reason or another may not be worth the expense.
