Anthelios Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 60 was designed to be the sun protection solution that those with oily and breakouts have been looking for. Additionally, La Roche-Posay claims it can withstand heat and humidity, as well as 80 minutes of wear in the water. Thanks in-part to its oil-absorbent, fragrance-free formula, we're happy to report this sunscreen delivers on its promises and earns its place among Beautypedia's best products!
Anthelios Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 60 comes in opaque, squeeze tube packaging, which helps preserve the stability of the formula. True to claims, it contains ingredients that mattify/prevent oily shine (at least temporarily—a few hours per use) and its tenacious formula can withstand hot, humid conditions better than most (but you'll still need to reapply if you perspire heavily).
As for the claim that it won't cause breakouts, that's a difficult blanket statement to prove because everyone's skin can react differently to a particular set of ingredients; however, the good news is there's nothing in this sunscreen that stands out as being alarming for acne-prone skin.
With a mix of synthetic sunscreens agents, this product has a less noticeable (almost imperceptible) cast on skin and provides reliable broad-spectrum sun protection. La Roche-Posay touts their "innovative" Cell-Ox Shield™ XL antioxidant technology as one of the selling points, but it turns outs Cell Ox Shield is a rather standard sun filtering system that has been around for years. Moreover, the "powerful antioxidant complex" is more of an afterthought in terms of the formula's minimal concentration, but we'll give it to them that some is better than none.
As for the texture, Anthelios Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 60 initially has a creamy consistency but dries down almost instantly—a particularly convenient feature for those who plan to follow-up with foundation and other makeup. And just in case it wasn't already clear, due to its absorbent nature, this formula is best suited for those oily skin (others will likely find it too drying).
All things considered, Anthelios Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 60 may not be quite as revolutionary as the La Roche-Posay brand makes it out to be, but it's still a great sunscreen for those with oily/breakout-prone skin + an active lifestyle (or hot/humid climates).
- Creamy consistency dries down almost instantly for a mattifying effect.
- Absorbent ingredients help hold back oily shine and withstand hot/humid conditions.
- Rated for 80 minutes of water resistance; ideal for active lifestyle.
- Fragrance-free formula well suited for oily/breakout-prone skin.
How We Rate Sunscreens vs. Daytime Moisturizers with SPF: Sunscreens are judged based upon whether they provide broad-spectrum sun protection, their SPF rating, potential for irritation, packaging and aesthetics. Additional qualities that push it into four or five star (best-rated) category are the inclusion of meaningful amounts of repairing, cell communicating or antioxidant ingredients as well as unique characteristics that enhance its wearability.
"Sunscreens" are differentiated from "Daytime Moisturizers with SPF" by three primary qualities.
• They must be marketed as "sunscreens" only by the brand.
• They lack specific anti-aging claims.
• Their size is greater than 2 ounces, unless it is specifically called out as a sunscreen for the face and is not positioned as a facial/daytime moisturizer with SPF.
