Review Overview

This body lotion isn't intense and it doesn't do a great job of repairing skin, either. That's because the formula lacks the types of ingredients dry, damaged skin needs to repair its surface and become healthier. Although the formula contains some ingredients that will make dry skin feel better, it is missing a range of skin-repairing and cell-communicating ingredients as well as antioxidants. Instead, you're getting mostly water, Vaseline, and wax. The tiny amount of soybean sterols isn't enough for your skin to notice, which is a shame because this underwhelming body lotion could use more ingredients like it! Please see our list of Best Body-Care Products for superior body lotions.

Pros:
  • Inexpensive (but you're still getting only an average formula so the price is less enticing).
Cons:
  • Basic formula fails to provide dry, damaged skin with the ingredients that are proven to help it repair itself.
  • Lacks antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, and cell-communicating ingredients that help skin look and act younger.
  • "Intense repair" is absolutely not what this body lotion provides.

Brand Overview

Lubriderm At-A-Glance

Strengths: Inexpensive; some fragrance-free body lotions; Lubriderm provides complete product ingredient lists on its Web site.

Weaknesses: Mostly outdated formulas that lack a range of skin-repairing ingredients; the body lotion with SPF 15 does not provide sufficient UVA protection; not much distinction between formulas, especially in the Daily Moisture range.

Among body lotion brands, Lubriderm is recognizable at drugstores and grocery stores around the world. Unfortunately, most of their formulas are about as exciting as watching grass grow! Instead of providing dry, itchy skin with a range of state-of-the-art ingredients proven to offer lasting benefits, Lubriderm stops short at the basics, with formulas that echo back to the 1960s.

What Lubriderm leaves out are the ingredients that would supply your skin with a healthy dose of antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, or cell-communicating ingredients. All these types of ingredients can actually "repair" skin, not just put a Band-Aid® on the problem of dry skin.

Lubriderm products are not bad, but it's like using a typewriter instead of a computer. Simply put, science has advanced skin care far beyond what Lubriderm formulas provide.

Lubriderm's price point is attractive, but saving money isn't always the end game. Besides, there are other inexpensive brands whose impressive body moisturizer formulas mean you don’t have to settle for less. At the drugstore, check out the options from CeraVe, Olay, and St. Ives or online from Paula's Choice for stellar inexpensive examples. Actually, the previously mentioned are some of the best examples around because even the expensive body products often omit the advanced ingredients.
