Extra Dimension Eye Shadow is a very good release for the M.A.C. Cosmetics brand, as its well-pigmented shades and buttery, exceptionally blendable texture attest. These shadows are among the best of what M.A.C. offers, with their shades leaning satin to shimmer in their finish. So long as a matte eyeshadow isn't your goal, these are well worth consideration.
The shade range is unconventional in some cases, like vibrant aubergine or burnt orange, but there are more than a few color options among the 15+ shades that are easy to experiment with (champagne, neutral pinks, greys and more).
M.A.C. touts Extra Dimension Eye Shadow as a hybrid formula that combines the "smoothness of a cream, the blendability of a liquid" with the long-wear of a powder. The performance of these shadows corroborates these claims, as they're very easy to blend and wear well, without creasing for most. Those with very oily eyelids may find some creasing does peek through mid-day, but these will resist such an outcome more than the average shadow, and their creasing can be offset further by prepping with a matte, long-wearing concealer or primer.
As is the case with any powder eyeshadow, these can be used as liner as well, but the deeper pigments of the Extra Dimension Eye Shadow is particularly suited for this, and they blend well over traditional eye liner formulas to create a subtle or smoky effect. Our personal favorites for their ability to work for a wide range of skin tones are Ready to Party, A Natural Flirt, Evening Grey, Sweet Heat, Fathoms Deep, Legendary Lure, Dark Dare and Silver Sun.
Extra Dimension Eye Shadow is a great shadow not only for its wearability, but also for its blendability and deeply pigmented shade range. We hope to see a few true matte options added to the range in time, as this is the only quality we could point to as a weakness among otherwise exceptional qualities.
- Well pigmented color range suits a wide range of skin tones.
- Blends easily with little to no fallout or flaking.
- Fragrance free.
- A minor one—it would be wonderful to see a few truly matte shade options.
