If you’re familiar with M.A.C., you know the brand releases quite a number of limited edition products throughout the year. Few releases, however, have garnered quite the level of interest of their recent Giambattista Valli Lipstick! So what’s the big deal? We’ll get to that in just a moment; but right off the top we want to point out that hype aside, these are great lipsticks that perform amazingly well, which is why they earn our highest rating.
M.A.C. frequently collaborates with fashion designers for its collections, and there was a lot of excitement when they announced their partnership with Giambattista Valli. Valli, an Italian designer based out of Rome, is best known for vibrant floral patterns worn by some of the world’s top celebrities.
The lipsticks he inspired are similarly bold; they include bright pinks, corals, and a couple of rich red shades. One of the biggest points of appeal of these lipsticks is their packaging. They’re in the standard bullet-shape tube M.A.C. is known for, but instead of being black, the tubes each match the shade of lipstick inside, meaning you know exactly what you’re getting when you reach for it.
As for the lipsticks themselves, they’re M.A.C.’s standard matte formula that already exists in the line, just in different colors. The good news is that their formula is excellent—these lipsticks apply smoothly and evenly without tugging, and you get full color coverage in a single coat. The finish is truly matte, but not drying (though if you have very dry lips, it’s best to layer a lip balm underneath).
As far as performance, the Giambattista Valli Lipsticks wear remarkably well, with an even layer of color present at the six-hour mark. When they do fade, they fade to an attractive stain that sticks around. For the darker shades we recommend using a waterproof makeup remover to take them off at the end of the day—the stain really does last that long!
These lipsticks, like all of M.A.C.’s offerings, do have a light vanilla scent, though that is provided by vanillin, which is not a skin irritant. It’s something to note though if you prefer your lipsticks to be fragrance-free.
Overall, M.A.C. Cosmetics limited-edition Giambattista Valli Lipsticks are definitely worth checking out, and thanks to their top-notch performance, are ones we recommend.
