Review Overview

Pro Longwear Paint Pot comes in, you guessed it, a pot. Basically a newfangled version of a cream-to-powder eyeshadow, Paint Pots have a soft, buttery texture that leads to a smooth, even application, whether applied with a natural-hair or synthetic brush (the synthetic brush produces a stronger color, while natural-hair brushes net a softer color deposit). These set quickly to a long-wearing, waterproof powder finish, so be sure blending is quick and precise. Once set, these absolutely do not crease, fade, or smudge, which is very impressive. All of the colors are workable, though some are a bit too colorful. The matte options include Soft Ochre, Quite Natural, and Painterly, which works as a great base color for the eyelid. The others have a soft to brazen shine. Because of Paint Pot’s finish, you can apply other shadows or pencil liner over it without disruption.

M.A.C. Cosmetics At-A-Glance

What more can one say for this long-standing makeup line whose products have spoken eloquently for themselves for years? In many ways, M.A.C. Cosmetics is a pivotal line not only for makeup artists but also for any in-the-know cosmetics consumer. Although M.A.C. has several singularly outstanding products, they generally excel by virtue of the range of choices offered. The color selection for everything from lipsticks to foundations is exceptional. Most of the makeup brushes are beautiful, full, and soft, as well as properly sized to fit the contours of the face and eyes.

When it comes to skincare you may be tempted to dismiss the small assortment M.A.C. offers and skip right to their makeup with its well-earned positive reputation. But doing so would mean missing a handful of beautifully formulated products that are worth trying. By no means is M.A.C.'s skin-care line one-stop shopping (at least not if you have blemishes, skin discolorations, or require more than a couple options per category), but you'll find more than just the color products impressive here, and the prices aren't unreasonable either!

M.A.C.'s salespeople are often trained makeup artists, too. This is especially true in the freestanding M.A.C. boutiques, where the staff tends to be true makeup artists.

Note: M.A.C. sets itself apart from other beauty brands by staying ahead of the curve by launching a seemingly-constant rotation of impressive limited edition products, usually with fashion-forward themes. Though it's impossible to review every limited edition product, many of M.A.C.'s are as impressive as those in their permanent collection.

Strengths: Some impressive moisturizers; praiseworthy foundations in a mostly gorgeous range of shades; good concealers; several great powder-based products including blush, bronzer, and eyeshadow in various finishes; dizzying array of lipstick shades in mostly sumptuous formulas; several very good mascaras (regular and waterproof); top-notch makeup brushes; many of the Prep + Prime products work as claimed.

Weaknesses:A few products with high levels of potential skin irritants.

Creased on Me

I was looking for a cream based eyeshadow in a color that could also be used as a primer. Saw all of the good reviews for this, but it just did not work on my oily lids. Within minutes I had heavy creasing and would constantly have to blend it in. One of the few MAC products I do not like.

Disappointing

Maybelline's Colour Tattoo eye shadows are far better value for money and - in my opinion - wear better. I find the formula of this shadow harder to blend and somewhat uneven. Plus the colour I have contains small bits of glitter which fall off and into my eyes and cheeks.

Disappointed!

I bought this product in Painterly to use it as a base. It applies easily, but unfortunately it is not for me. It dries to a solid matt and thick layer that has no movement at all, so you cannot put eye shadows on top of it because you will not be able to blend them and the look will be too heavy. I did not know my eye lids were wrinkled until I tried this product... It offers pretty good coverage for redness, but I believe it is best suited for teenagers if they can apply it thinly.

Not for oily lids

I can't recommend this because I had problems with this product. And then when they renamed it to prolong wear I asked if it works for those with oily lids they said no. I asked someone who actually worked for the counter.

This product has got all your bases covered!

This is my never fail go to product for when I need a base that absolutely does not crease or wear off throughout the day. The best part is that it sets to a powder finish which means that you can apply powder over it with no drag at all!

Great as a base!

Wonderfully creamy, yet after applied there's no creasing or movement. Apply it with a full-ish brush and it goes on as sheer -- or as heavy -- as you want. Painterly makes a great neutral base for powder eyeshadows.

Not so good for older gals

I would not recommend this product for older gals. It is too heavy, and we don't need the extra weight on our eyelids.
