Lightful C Tinted Cream with Radiance Booster Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is a lightweight tinted moisturizer that works very well to cover minor discolorations, yet looks natural on skin. Its semi-matte finish makes this an ideal option for those with oily to combination skin (whether you're prone to breakouts or not). Despite the "radiance" in the product name, this doesn't contain shimmer or leave skin with a dewy shine—however, it certainly does leave your skin with a healthy glow.

Packaged in an opaque squeeze tube container with a screw-off cap, this fragrance-free formula provides broad-spectrum protection via its in-part mineral sunscreen formula. Even better, at SPF 30, this provides a higher level of UVA/UVB protection than the average tinted moisturizer or foundation with sunscreen. The combination of mineral and non-mineral sunscreen actives may be iffy for those with rosacea (who can be sensitive to the latter), so if that's you, we recommend testing a sample first before purchasing a full-size product.

M.A.C. claims this will help manage the appearance of oily skin, which is accurate to an extent as it does dry down to a semi-matte finish and for us, maintained it for a few hours before we needed to blot. Few tinted moisturizers are appropriate for oily to combination skin, so we were pleased to see this one perform so well!

The finish is exceptionally natural looking—this is a must-try for those looking for a "your skin but better" formula. The degree of coverage is light, but can be layered for more than what you would expect from a tinted moisturizer to conceal imperfections (like redness). However, this won't hide blemishes or deeper red/pink marks left over after a breakout—for those, you'll still need your favorite concealer. The sheer cream texture blends well, but does take a few minutes to dry completely.

Lightful C Tinted Cream SPF 30 is currently offered in nine shades, grouped three each into "light," "medium" and "dark" categories. As the coverage is on the sheer to light side, the shades are forgiving. The shades look warmer out of the tube than they actually look on skin, and there are options here for most, except possibly for the very fair who may find the lightest shade not quite light enough.

Lastly, M.A.C. went the extra step to make this more than just a bare bones tinted moisturizer—in addition to the high SPF, this also includes a nice array of beneficial ingredients. Reparatives like sodium hyaluronate (the optimized form of hyaluronic acid for use in cosmetics) and squalene, along with multiple anti-irritants and antioxidants such as caffeine, lecithin, licorice root extract and vitamin C (as ascorbyl glycoside) are here—among many others. These ingredients, combined with the broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection, do have the potential to improve the appearance of discolorations; just don't count on them working as well as a vitamin C or retinol treatment for the treatment of brown spots or red marks.

M.A.C. Cosmetics' Lightful C Tinted Cream with Radiance Booster SPF 30 earned its rating due to its natural-looking finish, surprisingly wide range of shade options for those with fair to deep skin tones, inclusion of a wide range of beneficial ingredients and a broad-spectrum SPF 30 rating. For those with oily to combination skin, this has a lot to love, and absolutely worth checking out next time you're at a M.A.C. counter.

Pros:
  • Wide shade range.
  • Multiple beneficial antioxidants, anti-irritants and reparative ingredients.
  • Broad-spectrum SPF 30 rating.
  • Fragrance free.
Cons:
  • On the (slightly) pricey side.

Brand Overview

M.A.C. Cosmetics At-A-Glance

What more can one say for this long-standing makeup line whose products have spoken eloquently for themselves for years? In many ways, M.A.C. Cosmetics is a pivotal line not only for makeup artists but also for any in-the-know cosmetics consumer. Although M.A.C. has several singularly outstanding products, they generally excel by virtue of the range of choices offered. The color selection for everything from lipsticks to foundations is exceptional. Most of the makeup brushes are beautiful, full, and soft, as well as properly sized to fit the contours of the face and eyes.

When it comes to skincare you may be tempted to dismiss the small assortment M.A.C. offers and skip right to their makeup with its well-earned positive reputation. But doing so would mean missing a handful of beautifully formulated products that are worth trying. By no means is M.A.C.'s skin-care line one-stop shopping (at least not if you have blemishes, skin discolorations, or require more than a couple options per category), but you'll find more than just the color products impressive here, and the prices aren't unreasonable either!

M.A.C.'s salespeople are often trained makeup artists, too. This is especially true in the freestanding M.A.C. boutiques, where the staff tends to be true makeup artists.

Note: M.A.C. sets itself apart from other beauty brands by staying ahead of the curve by launching a seemingly-constant rotation of impressive limited edition products, usually with fashion-forward themes. Though it's impossible to review every limited edition product, many of M.A.C.'s are as impressive as those in their permanent collection.

Strengths: Some impressive moisturizers; praiseworthy foundations in a mostly gorgeous range of shades; good concealers; several great powder-based products including blush, bronzer, and eyeshadow in various finishes; dizzying array of lipstick shades in mostly sumptuous formulas; several very good mascaras (regular and waterproof); top-notch makeup brushes; many of the Prep + Prime products work as claimed.

Weaknesses:A few products with high levels of potential skin irritants.
