Maybelline's "Dream" line of products expands with Dream Bronze BB 8-in-1 Sunkissed Glow Perfector SPF 25 , which claims to be a bronzer with the benefits of a BB cream. While there are supposed to be eight benefits in all, the brand doesn't get too specific about any of them, using somewhat vague and related adjectives like "evens," "veils imperfections," "hydrates," and "refreshes" to describe them. What is clear is that this does not live up to its various claims.

Dream Bronze BB comes in a tube container with a twist-off lid, similar to other Dream BB products. The bronzer itself is fragrance-free, has a gel-liquid consistency that is easy to smooth onto skin, and dries to a soft powder finish. The issues with this bronzer start with the color, however. There are two shades available, Light/Medium Bronze and Medium/Deep Bronze, and both are overly warm in their undertone, with an appearance that appears orange-tinted instead of bronze or tan, and have small sparkle particles that are especially apparent in natural light.

This is designed to be used all over the face, so if you apply it that way it will not look like a natural tan. Even if you only use it as a highlighter, it will still result in orange-toned patches on your face. While this certainly will warm your skin tone as Maybelline claims, it will not be in the way you intended!

The second issue is with the sun protection. Maybelline makes note, both on its in-store advertising and its packaging, that this bronzer has the benefit of broad-spectrum SPF. While it does, the SPF rating of 25 is too low to provide adequate sun protection (SPF 30 or higher is recommended).

Maybelline's Dream Bronze BB 8-in-1 Sunkissed Glow Perfector SPF 25 is an overall lackluster formula that, despite its affordable price, is one we don't recommend. You can find much better options in all price ranges on our list of Best Bronzers (including a few excellent options from other drugstore brands).

Smart shoppers will note the similarities of a few of Maybelline’s formulas to products from high-end brands that are also owned by parent company L’Oreal. That just goes to show conscientious shopping can really save you money—without sacrificing quality or performance.
